If that was implemented, I'd assume every foul where a player is injured would have to result in a red card. On today's incident, I dont even think its a foul never mind a red, the ref certainly didn't blow up, it was only salah shouting for the medical team that stopped the match. It was an unfortunate accident, their legs got tangled together after he won the ball. It happens.
Dno I’d say he lunged from behind. He caught Elliott before he got the ball so it’s definitely a foul and a yellow minimum. Mainly just playing devils advocate but by letter of the law, it sounds like a red card as it was a lunge and reckless and dangerous. Always a tricky one though. If he hadn’t been sent off then you’d have people saying should be a red for causing the injury. I think it’s one where it’s easy 50/50 and was a very similar tackle on mane 10 mins later that wasn’t even given as a foul so who knows.
Definitely, it wasn't a horror tackle, I wasn't shouting for a foul when it first occurred but looking back, it coukd be a booking. To be fair to the ref once you've seen his foot dangling off his leg, your only going to make one descion. Turned my stomach watching it on TV, god knows what it would have been like standing next to him. I thought salah was going to retch
Sounds like a dislocation, it was 'put back' on the pitch. Horrible. Excellent performance against a potential banana skin opponent, we are looking good.
Must be serious ligament damage there. Real shame. Put back but I suppose in reality release the nerves and blood supply and that in case. I read he is released from Leeds hospital but will be having surgery so whatever that means
If surgery is required then it sounds like its more than a simple dislocation. Serious ligament damage is extremely painful. He seems like a tough young man, we will be seeing him again.
You can have a legitimate and fair challenge that ends in a leg break. I think this one reckless because it was from behind and by letter of the law, should be red (regardless of the leg break) but it's the type of tackle we see every game (there was another afterwards (on Mane I think) that went completely unpunished) that only see a yellow.
Listened to it on the radio earlier washing the car. Just watched the highlights, it was a great all round performance, apart from Mane who is an utterly utterly frustrating player and has had a shocker and needs to have a look at himself, even though he, eventually, managed to find the net.
It could blight him forever. Ankles are a batard. I imagine we won’t see him for several months which is a real shame, him, TAA and Salah were dominating play down the right in every game we’ve played. It’s been much better than what’s come down the left side so far.
That’s the 9th time Fabinho and Thiago have started today for us, 9 wins so far. We talk about our defence issues last year and our forwards not scoring, but not being able to put out our strongest midfield really impacted us as well. Thiago when on form is just an absolute joy to watch. Thiago yesterday, most tackles, most duels won and most possessions won in middle 3rd. People talk about him as a guy that sits there and passes it 5 yards but he’s so much more than that and goes unnoticed. I love watching him when ball is played into him. He also knows what’s around him and has quick burst of acceleration on the spin to get away from players. We’re a couple of moments yesterday when ball got played into him, man comes to close him down and he just does a step over or dip of the shoulder and lose the player and sets the attack going. So effortless but so effective.
3 to 4 months min if he is lucky. we will see. I saw it again and its all very unfortunate. An honest effort at the ball and the guy is one footed and trying for the ball but its his knee coming down that does the damage. Its in some ways just completely freakish as if Elliott was a half second either way he probably slides but his studs are firmly planted as well. Surgery = torn something imo.
I think they started 10 because I recall they both played in the Everton game last season when we were robbed. But yeah, we won the rest of the games For me, they have nailed down 2 out of 3 midfield options. It's a real shame about Elliot because I think he was locking down that right side.
torn/snapped/detached - yeah can get very messy on ankles - hope the lad makes a full recovery for our sake as much as his as he was looking every bit a top player.
Poor Elliot - career has been halted but let's hope it's jus a dislocation and there are no other issues (fractures / ligament damage). Whilst I don't think there was any malice in the challenge, it's a clear red card and it was dangerous. Whilst Strujik's leading leg was ok and won the ball, it's the trailing leg which does all the damage - and the last time I checked, the trailing leg is still attached to Strujik's body and he is responsible for it. Both feet were off the ground, he came in from behind and through Elliot. It's a clear red card and it was dangerous. There should be no discussion but there will be when you have nobheads like Neville on the tv saying it was an ok challenge. Pathetic. Pawson was awful all game and let Leeds get away with a lot. This whole new leniency directive has gone too far as well.
