Varney was immense tonight other then THAT miss! his performance today was exactly what weve been lacking for weeks. someone to run in behind- something becchio cant do- dragging defenders away and giving diouf room to play. he was always an option in the channels meaning we could pass the ball rather than hacking it aimlessly. this allowed us to play saints of the pitch. fair play to the lad. i seriously think he needs to get more game time up front, but i know most of you still idolise becchio for some reason.
Elland if you took notice on here you would know I don't drink #notaveryobservantmod yes I didjust hashtag
Depends who wins, if the team that win it qualify for the CL I think they defer the EL place to the runner up, hence the "possibly". 2 rounds then.
A good win, albeit against the Saints 2nd XI. That said, selection dilema for Friday & a nice position for Warnock to be in. Varney's performance will certainly shake Becchio up a bit, or did we just pass it around rather than hoof it up field? Either way, Varney or Becchio + Diouff when we play footy on the floor has got to improve our chances of promotion.
Back to earth on Friday though boys.....CMS will find his scoring boots and Brighton will leave with the 3 points!
Time will tell Tommy, but we played some much better stuff tonight than has been the case for a while. So who knows? Either way, it should now be a better game than it might have been had we been turned over badly by what looked like a poor Saints team.
To all those wondering, we were sublime last night. Varney had a brilliant game apart from having worse finishing than my nan. I was thinking the same as someone else who commented, he was getting in behind their defence and causing them all sorts of problems. Pelts had his best game so far this season as well, was really solid at left back, causing loads of problems going forwards and handling anything they threw at us down that side. I personally believe it's the lack of pressure and the improved atmosphere that's allowed them to perform. The crowd were brilliant.
Just can't quite understand why we're persisting with Peltier at LB. We have 2 perfectly capable left backs on the bench (well, White is okay there...). Regardless of how he played last night, he is not a long term solution there at all.
