Not sure if this is true or not, but the chap who sits beside me at ER tells me that under Bielsa, we've only lost 1 of 40 games when we've scored first. Not sure if Reading made 41 or not. The bit he was unsure about was the split between draws & wins. He reckoned 36 wins, 3 draws & only 1 loss. Always knew how important the first goal was, but if this is true, it really hammers it home for us, eh? I'll leave it to the curious stattos to confirm or debunk.
Very important to get the first goal against teams who just come to defend. I can think of two occasions when Leeds have scored the first goal and gone on to lose - home vs Wigan last season and playoff sf 2nd leg vs Derby
Bamford wouldn't have scored it as he wouldn't be on the pitch. He's not good enough to get in that team.
Makes sense too as on that score, on our recent poor run of results we seemed to go a goal down first in most of the games and struggled so hopefully we can score in first five minutes of remaining games. I’d also be curious as to how many we score in first half v second half. It feels like we were scoreless at half time in a lot of games and went on to win. Maybe memory letting me down
Don't know what the actual stats are, but I've always thought of Leeds as being a second half team for many years now. I don't think it's as bad now, but certainly not good when it comes to scoring in the first half. Again, it's an impression, not based on stats.
