I'm finding this conversion of chances thing a bit tedious now (not aimed at you, btw). If you click on the 'goals' column in the link you provided, we're 4th for goals scored. For me, it matters not whether it takes 50 chances or 500 chances - it's the number of goals scored. And even then, it's only in relation to the goals conceded - i.e. goal difference. After points won, goal difference is the next best indicator. Look again at the original table & ask yourself if you'd rather be Bristol. They're top, with a 74% conversion rate (to our 22%). There's a goal in it (in our favour), but they're 6 places behind us on the league! I know who I'd rather be, and if it means having to carry a low conversion rate, I'll go with that. We're not doing too badly with such a poor rate, are we? Makes you wonder how important it really is on the face of it. Carry on Bamford et al, as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely no need for the pressure we place the team under goven we're doing so well.
Basically the stats show that we take so many shots and miss that the opposition don't have enough time to get up to our end of the ground and score as they are continually taking goal kicks.
It's just frustration. If we had Bristol Citys conversion rate for the last couple of seasons we would be in the Champions league places right now! Imagine if we could somehow fix it? We'd be unstoppable!
MATCH SOLD OUT A midweek January fixture against unattractive rivals is still a must see event. Delve a little deeper into who we are, where we were, the length of time away from the upper echelons and it becomes clear we're on quite an amazing journey. The small squad, lack of any investment and players perfoming way beyond their previous capabilities. The flaws of no leadership, missed chance followed by missed chance, fragilty leading to late concessions and defeats. It's absolute pure theatre and totally unmissable. How is this group of fairly average players continually dominating every team they meet. Excitement and expectation levels have risen to a fever pitch not seen for nearly two decades...and yet no PL clubs come calling for our players and probably rightly so. Pinch yourselves and look on in awe at what's actually unfolding before our very eyes. It's special and it certainly won't last, likley to vanish as quickly as it mysteriously arrived. Most fans amazed at what they are witnessing and enjoying every last second of it, whilst others can't believe success will come, it's all built on sand and surely will therefore fail. No one knows how this season will utimately end, perhaps glory awaits but needs to won, seized and grasped with an iron will, one thing we know for sure is we'll get absolutely nothing given to us. Eighteen wonderful games to enjoy and endure, cancel the shopping trips, divorce the wife if necessary, your team is potentially on the verge of something quite extraordinary. Surely it doesn't get any better than this.
If I was Mr Orta I'd be popping down to Shrewsbury tomorrow to sign a certain Josh Laurent. Just the type of powerful driving midfielder we need. Get it done asap.
I don't think so young man, we should put a bid in for Salah, he only made the bench tonight and so he must be unhappy?
Nah, cancel that Salah is only 5ft 8 inch and so wont to able to cut it as a striker, back to the drawing board
10 days since our last game against 3 for Millwall. Surely this is the game where all those who favoured resting players (and an early exit) in the FA Cup get to gloat at a sure fire 3 points ?
Yep and if WBA secure automatic promotion and we don't it will show that momentum is far more important than a few days rest.
