If you remember gfh were on a charm offensive when Byram got the original ridiculous £12k a week contract. Things were going badly and losing what was then one of our better players would have made them even more unpopular. If I was Sam of course I would have taken the money and because he has got used to it he was never going to take a cut. Ironically the reduced contract Cellino offered him was close to what his current playing level merits. Problem started by gfh and then mishandled by Cellino..... A microcosm of all our problems.
I'll bet big jack and McQueen stood out in the midfield. Not sure who was playing centre half when they did it though! We've been crying out for a midfield organiser. 1/2 a swallow, in this case, doesn't make a summer but if he can replicate that 45 mins consistently then he may be just what we need.
Thank you, thought I had lost my marbles during the night because Big Jack and McQueen were centre halves whenever I have seen them. Maybe it was deceptive on the wireless?
It would appear, the only way Byram would sign another contract would be if he was now offered 15-18k a week for a further three years. Does anyone seriously believe he is worth that based on his last 18 months. There is better and more consistent players out there available for that sort of loot
I don't personally believe money is the issue now, it was the handling of the situation months back, add to this he can't see promotion in the near future and he wants to try pastures new
Where professional footballers and their agents are involved Ristac, money is always, always the issue. Youd be fooling yourself to believe otherwise
As Ive said previously, lets see what he ends up with in a couple of seasons. I dont understand the Byram love in at times. Hes currently not worth 12k a week and if he wasnt already a Leeds player, we wouldnt be trying to sign him. Two years ago, many were discussing City preparing a 10m bid and Arsenal looking at him. Now I read fans believing it will be the likes of Sunderland or a top championship club that he will join. Shows me the direction his career is heading. Cellino handled it terribly, as usual, doesnt make Byram in the right either
Not our best RB. But who else could play there and do a better job than Wooten if we exclude Byram for the moment?
Back then centre halves were classed as the midfield as well, in the old 1-2-3-5 formation, just thought I'd bring you up to speed......
Jack Charlton I can't argue with you on because I wasn't even born in the fifties so don't know how football on the radio was then but you know a lot more than a lot of other people because I have just spent 15 minutes googling Gordon McQueen and can't find him described as a anything other than a Centre Half.
Afternoon Eire. His career might be heading that way because he's constantly played out of position by the club who seem hell bent on turning him into a winger, which he's not. Might be another reason he wants out.
