Nice to get the win, but what it does say to me is we are playing this season with the smallest squad of all time. Forget all this stuff about our talented U23s. They are not going to get a look in.
Clean sheet first win lots of chances, valuable time for Llorente, Forshaw and Firpo… Negatives - Shame Summerville never got a chance, I’m very worried about Rodrigo and my earlier opinions about Roberts and Costa feel justified. I’m not too concerned about Costa as we have Raphinha and I’m hoping Summerville eventually replaces Costa. Rodrigo, I just don’t see where he is going to get game time and form.
Actually, the largest positive tonight was Bielsa put out a team to win, no repeat of last seasons square pegs in round holes and total screw up
Rodrigo was on fire at the back end of last season. Was only for 5 or 6 games but he looked a very good player. That showed me he was more than capable in the PL. He needs to find that form again and quickly though.
Honestly you lot really make me laugh. Fortunately whilst all on here were panicking in proper Corporal Jones fashion those of us in the stadium were completely relaxed. There was only ever one team in it and we ran them ragged second half...as the final score shows. Great workout for the lads and sets us up nicely for Sunday.
That's what happens when you listen on a radio link, but without actually being there or at least seeing it on TV you can't see how on top we were. Good result in the end and great to see Bielsa put a strong side out and at least to have a strong bench
Come on really? With 11 minutes to go nobody was checking their watches and fearing penalties. I find it hard to believe nobody was fearing it’s going to be one of those nights. I sense the larger concern is squad depth and how the likes of Rodrigo, Roberts and Costa never smashed home their chance to impress and push for a start.
… from what I heard, he tried Rodrigo as am and Roberts as striker, when most thought it would be the other way round. When bamford replaced rod, Roberts looked better at am. didn't see it, just what I read elsewhere. Perhaps Jammy could give his view.
Both Rodders and Tyler were dropping deep to get on the ball, neither of them impressed to be honest. You're correct though Roberts looked better once Bamford came on but Crewe were pretty leggy by that point. Everyone worked hard though and they'll all be better for the minutes.
