But the pl is a fire gone conclusion every season as are Spanish French Irish leagues etc. all dominated by one or two clubs so why are you singling out the league in Scotland. I’ve been to some terrific games there in last twenty five years so I know a little what I’m talking about. Not near experience of WJ though
And May I add I’ve seen the likes of John Harrison Chris Sutton Packer Bonner and a certain Larson lad who could all slot into any top team. Also no coincidence that when they clicked their fingers Rogers came running while we were dreaming about him. I’m not comparing clubs but some people need a reality check of exactly where we are football circles
The difference is that Celtic DO win games in Europe, and not just in the first round. When did we last achieve that? Nearly quarter of a century ago. And you think we're playing a higher standard than them? You're crazily deluded, and perhaps you should indeed pop over the Pennines & give us all peace. Incidently, Manc & their billions failed to beat Celtic home or away last time they played in the Champions League a few years ago. Guess they're in a pub league too if they can't beat that rubbish from oop noth.
Not so sure about Rangers, tbh. I still remember Chesterfield cuffing them & a riot ensued. They had a riot over in Manc too, didn't they? Perhaps Beale might pull something together this season, but on last season's offerings, no chance. Sad, but true.
My usual invite is extended to you for weekend nov 10 WJ. We’re ther for usual two nights if you and your mates want to pop to the brazen for a few dozen pints
Maybe not as it stands but if they were ever allowed to play south of the border then they'd easily get up to the required standard with the necessary investment of course. PL has Luton, Bournemouth and Brentford remember to name just 3 of the clubs that shouldn't really be in there.
No, I disagree, they earned it initially, and 2 by retention of their places in the PL. They've had the good luck (?) to have good leaders, which we might have one day .....
Nah just poxy clubs who catch other teams off guard with their teeny tiny stadiums. Ok you're right they've earned it but doesn't mean I have to like or applaud it.
Here’s an odd one. Those clubs mentioned all operate from small stadia and I don’t think any big fuss from their fans. Seems to be a big deal being made of our stadium expansion to 55k. All a bit premature. There was no problem getting tickets this weekend and it’s high time our owners realised that what’s on the field is what matters. They. Instantly harp on about 22k on a waiting list for season ticket. Doesn’t mean they’ll all convert to season tickets as I’m on that list but won’t be buying one as I’m simply too old now to get value
That's what I'm saying. If they weren't playing in a pub league then they could progress. The pub league actually holds them back. They do ok in Europe but they basically play friendlies all season and save themselves for the big games against the other lot and games in Europe. They probably average 1 competitive game a month. The current standard of those teams having to turn up and get the **** kicked out of them 3 times every week wouldn't last 2 minutes in the PL and I reckon they'd struggle to get up for the fight every Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday in the Championship. Celtic might make the play offs if they built a squad but Rangers would finish mid table if they were lucky. There's a big difference between playing once a month and playing 40-50 competitive games a year. They wouldn't cope. They'll never join because they know they are nice and safe being the big fish up there. Down here they'd be just another also ran. So yeah, stick Celtic and Rangers in the Championship and I think we'd finish above them. They don't have the fight in them 3 times a week.
Have you lot finished now .....Cardiff thread and it's turned into a bun fight over who's **** and who's ****ing marvelous ....back to the proper matter to hand...Leeds 3 bluebirds 1
Bournemouth broke every financial rule in the book when they went up the first time at the expense of other clubs that stuck to the rules. Then they were recieving parachute payments from that original promotion to go up last time. They don't deserve to be there. Throw Wolves and Villa in there too. The other two have done exceptionally well.
Fair points emu but in case you haven’t noticed City are in exact same position. They can be ten points back at Xmas and still win league by ten at least. They hockey any team they want. So don’t pretend the pl is any different. City will win probably 9 out of next 10 but sky will insist it’s best league in the world and the bulk of fans will bite and believe it
Yeah, that's fair too. Aberdeen won the Scottish league in 84. Since then only Rangers or Celtic have won it. We're coming up to 40 years. That's astounding. In England during the same time frame there have been 9 different winners. That's not great in itself but come on, wouldn't it be better if other teams in Scotland like Hearts, Aberdeen and Hibs stood a chance. They are league 1 and league 2 standard. It's just not competitive.
Probably still time for a nightcap as we don't KO until 2-30pm tomorrow. Seriously though City are having to make changes to their squad and the upheaval will mean they don't retain their title.
