Views from yesterday. In the main we were poor. To many players having an average day. Slow in thought and deed for the whole of the first half, ponderous across the back four and midfield playing backwards too often. O'Kane had his worst game since he signed. Phillips was not at it, hesitant and standing off. But still even with all that we looked as they we had enough to score if we could get enough ball in the final third. Second half we were much better creating 4/5 decent chances. Hernandez starting to play make as he should and we started to look a better team. After about 70 mins I was thinking last season or even earlier this season we would probably lose this. Bamba, Belusci etc would make an error and we'd be one nil down and then unable to break down a resolute defence. That could have happened but it didn't. In the main Burton had no chances only hopeful balls into the box hoping for something to drop their way. The one notable who played to a very high level was Chris Wood. All game his touch, movement and physical presence was first class. Many time he made excellent runs into the box and would have had a couple of tap ins if the ball had arrived at his feet. His movement and understanding with Roofe is improving from time on the pitch and presumably training. Often he moved the centre half out wide creating space for Roofe to make a run inside. This movement and interchanging finally led to the break through, this time it was The Duke bursting through the centre onto an excellent Hernandez pass into he space created by Wood. At the start of the season Wood jogged around in the centre forward position and offered little to the team. That has all changed now which has to be down to both the player himself but also the coaches. So we won a game previously we might have lost. That shows determination and character especially when many were having a below par game. It also shows we're organized and believe we can win no matter what. Special mention to The Duke. He's played himself right back into the squad, not as starter but ideal to come on and use his pace against tiring opponents. Think this could be especially useful if we are protecting a lead. Well done Duke you've obviously worked your socks of in training to catch the mananger's eye. Also well done to Monk for tweaking his position to allow him to show what he can do.
You did well to produce a report for a game i would have called nondescript. Burton did hit the bar and had a shot go very narrowly wide in the first quarter so I think they were more if a threat than your report suggests. But they are a poor side...
Looking at all the stats,Burton are a mid table side, can beat most on their day and never easy to beat, not lost by more than 2 all season
I heard the rumours but was waiting for one of the paddies to confirm. First sock google found. How come you know what it is?
