I think Roberts knows this is the time to make an impression and imo is trying too hard, he got through a hell of a lot of work first half, all over the pitch, so much so I was starting to wonder where he was supposed to be playing. Second half nothing worked for him and needed subbing, for what he costs and his age, could be worth persevering with a little longer. If we are bringing in 4 or 5 top players next season as reported then his days are pretty much numbered I would think.

I'll say it again, as I enjoy being laughed at...Tyler is a £20 million player.

We need to give him a new deal and let him develop further.

Roberts is same age as Struijk...yet for some reason posters expect him to be bossing games in the PL. The talent is there, albeit he's only showing it in snatches, already he's had a couple of assists and he should have had a goal or two as well. Not sure how that equates to being useless ?

Worst case scenario is, we sell him to a Championship club in a couple of years...he'll still only be 23.

But you can see the improvement in struijk when played at CB almost every game he plays. Not sure the same can be said of Tyler

Not sure what you're expectations are ?

He's playing in a creative role and has created goals, finds space and gets on the ball, can beat a man and drive forwards as well as getting into great goalscoring positions...all against decent PL opposition I might add.

Oh and he's started a paltry 3 games all season yet somehow is expected to be firing on all cylinders.

Exactly...if he did everything that supporters demand from him we're looking at a £50 million plus player.

Give the kid a chance FFS...Harry Kane was getting loaned out at his age <ok>

I’d guess he’s not meeting anyone’s expectations and that’s why he’s only started a paltry 3 games. So he “can” do the things you say, just not often enough to get picked. Football is a ruthless sport so if we getter better quality to allow us to start doing something other than just stay in the premier league to satisfy the money men, we might not have the time to see if he develops full potential

Roberts is back up to a 30 million pound player.

Last season he was doing a job share with Pablo for the last 8/9 games so only had 45 min per game.

Yep let's give him away as he's utter tosh...if he can't blow us away with perfomances now he never will.

The thing is, his contract will have 18 months to run come the end of the season. Contract decision time. If we're taking a chance with him, what contract do we offer him? Most seem to be getting long contracts recently. Would he get offered the same? That would be a helluva risk.

Wrt him being all over the park - is that not a problem in itself, when our team has a pattern & he's not where he should be? Especially if you're the #10. He's got to get the ball to be creative, but if he's not where he should be, how can that happen? Love him or hate him, you could never aim that accusation at Saiz. He was always available (which prolly precipitated the surfeit of 'fat, lazy basturd' comments.

Guess we'll never know what really went on with Siaz...a top talent who threw it all away is the logical conclusion.

Never saw him play a game where he wasn't the best player on the pitch.

Another article which evidences a dreadful Roberts performance. Time to give Harry Potter his tv back watch the same matches as us! :D

Love the phrase 'disasterclass'. Never heard that one before. Hope I never hear it again when discussing a Leeds player.

    It's all about opinions WJ.

Let's see where we are in 12 months with Roberts and come back to this...we'll either get very decent money for Tyler or he'll become a useful PL player for us is my opinion.

Your way we just get scrap value.

Could be true, he knows he has to make an impression while Rodrigo is out... he also likes to try and play with a bit of a swagger and I think when it doesn’t come off, it can rub fans up the wrong way. Clearly people think he’s a bit billy big time... never met him so don’t have an opinion on him personally.

He’s had a terrible time with injuries so struggled to get a really consistent run in the team. He got more airtime late last season and didn’t show much now he’s getting a run at premier league level and its asking a lot for him to run the show.

Would I have been bothered if we’d sold him, in jan, no. Do I still think there’s a player in there trying to get out, Yes. I think he has plenty of ability, but we’ve only seen it in flashes... and it’s stating the obvious that he needs to show it consistently.

I get that people have lost patience with him, just think he’s a bit of a scapegoat. But hey the twitterati have spoken so the debate is closed!

I can't understand how anyone can support costa on this occasion( sorry Emu I should say of course it's your right to have a different view of the incident). He was slow reacting, ball watching IMO and he cost us the game. His shooting like Roberts is appalling. I was really hoping that he was getting better, but IMO he doesn't look interested at times. But hey ho it's just my opinion.<ok>

    It's a tricky one...

Firstly every Leeds player pushed out from the corner, except Cooper who played every Villa player onside. If the reverse happened and Costa stayed with his man and Cooper pushes out (as he should do) then Costa plays every Villa player onside and any pass through the centre to Mings or whoever could have led to a goal.

Captain Hindsight says you are correct though...in the circumstances that happened, Costa could have prevented the goal by staying with his man.

Like others Costa unfortunately didn't have a good game, he wasn't absolutely shocking and in mitigation he was up against an agressive full back who had the better of him on this occassion.

Personally I'd have rather started Harrison and used Costa from the bench 2nd half if needed.

Shame we lost the game, but we win and lose as a team so I'm not hanging any indiviuals out to dry. Same as when Meslier messed up at Arsenal, same as when Koch, Rodrigo gave away needless penalties.

To err is human, to forgive devine <ok>

I never had ago at those other players you mentioned, mainly because the young keeper has kept us in games, there were mitigating conditions that led to Kochs poor back pass and lastly Rodrigo was only starting his Leeds Utd adventure when he gave away the peno. But Costa has been with the club for a while now and he is just so inconsistent, he seems to sulk when not picked, although he has a few goals to his name his shooting isn't the best. I'm not hanging him out to dry as you say, I don't have to, he does that himself. <ok>

Think you can look at both Cooper and costa for the goal... everyone steps out except coops, so costa thinks el ghazi is offside... should still have tracked the run though and that would likely have negated el ghazi’s chance for a second touch. Still a mishit shot from Watkins and a scuffle through the keepers kegs from el ghazi. Thems the breaks.

To be fair shaks, Koch has made a bunch of defensive mistakes, meslier has made a lot too but people cut him some shack (rightly) because of his age. Not all of either of their mistakes have cost goals but they could have. Rodrigo too has given the ball away regularly in dangerous positions, as has golden balls Raphinha.

I think the players I’ve mentioned get cut slack because of the good stuff they contribute, and many think Roberts and costa don’t do enough good to mitigate the bad. Some players also have an on-field demeanour that makes people think they aren’t trying, rightly or wrongly.

I'm supporting Costa and any other player who's coming in for stick because there are most definitely mitigating circumstances for all.

    1) We're new to the PL and adjusting to playing at a higher level against better teams/players/tactics etc.
    2) The players who get the most stick have had the least amount of games to make that adjustment.
    3) The amount of injuries we've had means it's not been a settled side all season, so more diffficult to come into.

Since the beginning of time every footballer will say that they need a run of games, doesn't matter how hard you train and prepare the consensus is always it's impossible to get match fit without playing. That applies to everyone, at every club, even the very best.

Just my opinion but that's how I see it <ok>
