Now got to go to Leeds midweek I hope folk don’t get over enthused about some of the players performances today (as commendable they were). PL teams allow opposition room so don’t expect Sawyers or Rinomota to perform as well as they did today against eg Wigan & Millwall. But again conceded goals that should have been defended better.
Overall I thought it was a great team effort and gives encouragement going forward. However taking Isaak off on the hour removed all the pressure from their defence. He was a real pain in the backside for them with his pace and enthusiasm. Once he left the field it was easy for them and our midfield were overwhelmed. Gnoto gave our right-side a roasting and we could do little about it. A torid second half for Sang. Rodrigo on as sub also asked questions of our central defenders which we had trouble answering. A pity Bagan saw red. With 11 players on the park I think we could have held out. Do we want to go to Boreham Wood or Accrington anyway?
Just finished watching the game back. Decent enough effort, though really poor from Nelson and Simpson for Leeds 1st goal, completely switched off. Gutted for Bagan. Put in a good showing, would surely have put himself in the frame for our troublesome left back slot but will now have a suspension. Good to see Oli Tanner given a run out and really good use of Zac Davies too. We were always going to be up against it when we went down to 10 and they had brought their big guns on...
Had some fun at the Wurzle v Jack's game. Got stuck behind a slow moving caravan trail of gypos on the way to the ground... Was right in amongst them at one point.. Mrs Brizzle had to stop me doing the ayatollah in the middle of them and I had to hold her back when they kept stopping to urinate in the street, which prompted some of them to start singing "always pi$$ on the English side of the bridge". Didn't want to let her loose on them all and end up missing my pre-match burger!
Hey Vetch, welcome to the Capital board... Good to see you again. Not sure I understand your comments mate... Just a bit of tongue in cheek comment from me. If it helps your sense of context, I actually did go to the Wurzle game today and walked in/amongst your fans on the way down there due to a bridge closure over the river and some poor timing on mine and the missus part....
To be honest, I thought putting Tanner on at that point was a mistake. He didn't look the part up front for me - very lacking in confidence. If Zak need to come off the pitch through fatigue, I'd have stuck a either Ralls or Wintle on instead and left Harris up there on his own.
Agreed he didn't make the greatest impression, but from a man management perspective it must have been a boost to him. Shame Robbo wasn't fit enough to play. We may have seen them off if we could have got the ball to stick up top a bit more. Ho hum .. still a decent lift for the players and hopefully enough of a morale boost to encourage us to go for it v Wigan next week.
not a bad result for you butts, but another fixture to add on. I thought you'd done them over, so you just gotta do it again. Glad to see Villa can be relied on to take the embarrassement spotlight off us hahahaha
Good point Nin. The way we played today I would start with most of the same team! The problem is that players like Ojo, Sawyers and Philogene drift in and out of games and may not turn up for the next match. I liked the idea of playing Davies up front which allowed Harris the opportunity to help out Sang by doubling up on their tricky left wing players. Let’s face it we need to change something if we’re going to stay up so why not give this side a second chance.
Ng and Cipre have to return. Bagan out so Nkoukou back in or play O'Dowda there? O'Dowda for me. Robinson and Etete, if fit, should start. Isaak can go wide. Middle of the park, Wintle has to return and I would have Colwill instead of Sawyers then Ralls or Rinamota? That's my only question. Tough on the guys who did well yesterday but we have to go at Wigan with our best available 11.
Sorry Brizzo - didn't see any point at all in Hudson giving Tanner a run out if as rumoured he's off to York for the rest of the season - complete waste of time. Trying to replace Davies with Tanner in a like for like substitution was tactically inept - the two are poles apart in what they offer. The spanner (not Tanner) in the works for Leeds would have been sticking Nkounkou into the mix instead - that would have shaken up their back line and not given them the freedom to constantly push forward onto us. Is that too much "out of the box" thinking? Maybe, but for me Hudson is still on the first couple of pages of the coach's manual. Going two goals up, that game was there to be won yesterday and in all honesty we blew it. We need more effective on field player management of what he's got rather than talking about "spikes in intensity" and the like. That will probably come with time and appreciate that was a one off "glory" Cup game. We effectively played our reserves against theirs, but the real test is the Championship. Saturday's game against low fliers Wigan is massive and far more important.
Interesting thought that Sparky, Nkounkou up top.... he's shown he does have some skill on the ball and he's a solid enough guy to get physical... As for Tanner, I guess I'm guilty of thinking longer term man management and trying to build him up into the valuable asset we hope he'll become. You are probably right in that it didn't help for our immediate return on the game though. Saturday is massive and much. much more important than our cup replay against the Yorkshire has-beens...
Just had a look at the Weeds board. Naughty boy Sparks. Gave as good as you got though. They are pretty tolerant there unlike some Championship hoards.
Give it a rest retch .. and stop trying to suppress freedom of the press That was our top reporter there and he was at the game unlike you, and he knows what the dirty little chavs were up to
