I am fast coming round to the idea that this is bielsa’s ethos a small group of players that can play almost anywhere a bit dangerous in my book
dont know if you or anyone else on here saw this news story on my below link it totally shows what i been saying for years about cooper been a risk in defence have a read https://the72.co.uk/152716/leeds-united-defender-labelled-a-concern-after-preston-display/
In the article Darren Bent is concerned about Cooper in the Prem. Many are concerned about him in the Championship!
I think that has been the concern of most re Cooper ever since he came to Leeds. He’s reduced the error count over the past few years and become a very good player... albeit in a side that defends in a very different way and doesn’t need to soak up pressure. But Bent is right about lack of concentration... he could have added that sometimes he has red mist/ panic moments too that have cost us. Jansson had plenty of errors in him as well. Welcome to the world of championship centre halves. In general cooper is a good centre half for a bielsa team and playing the way we do from the back, some mistakes are inevitable, he’s been good on the whole this season. One crap game against Preston doesn’t change that. It’s white’s form that is more of a concern.. after a great start to the season he hasn’t looked so assured recently and a few goals conceded recently are down to him.
Cooper himself said that before Bielsa arrived all Leeds did was defend and the ball just kept coming back at the defence, so for 90 minutes he had to get his head on the ball, block or hoof away. That meant more chances of mistakes being made by all of the defence. under Bielsa he gets time to look up and play balls either long or short, and gets time to read the game with not much rush or panic so less chances of an error. Bielsa's ethos is that if you have the ball the opposition dont and if you have the ball in their half....
1 thing that puzzles me though is why did leeds utd offer cooper a 5 year deal recently knowing we could be in premiership next season and beyond ? very strange anyone know any answer to it ?
... I was happy he got an extension but the deal was too long in my opinion...though mainly because of his age at the end of it
true the last 5 games of last season showed me enough of him , then as usual at leeds the unexpected happened we offered him a 5 year deal ??
im ok with that part of it , still think we need a couple of players in the 2nd half of season , hope we got some lined up in january
true so why do it ? surely he should have had a 3 year deal , 1 season to get into premier , 1 season to survive there ,then buy a great defender and sell cooper with 1 year left on contract
Because IF we go up he can have one go to see if he can cut it. If we then go back down we have a known championship defender on the books. If somehow we go up and stay up, we get decent money selling him to a championship side
Cooper cant cut it in championship when he comes under pressure he panicks and will do in premier league and we dont want to come straight back down because of his mistakes , if we get promoted we could sell him before we kick off first match as a premier league player
