no billboy, i have no idea what you mean because h has turned out to be a class keeper and we didnt really pay out for him
You may have been sarcastic here, but there's some truth in it. Simply the presence of a transfer fee seems to be a good indication of the quality of a given player. Of our current star players this season, McCormack, Lonergan, Clayton, all came with a transfer fee. This is an observation I made recently. When transfer fees are paid, no matter how small, the player tends to be of (on average) higher quality than the frees we've gotten hold of. Bates can't see this because he's a pratt.
We've had players under contract before - i.e. Bessone - that no one was willing to pay a transfer fee for, so we mutual terminated his contract to allow him to leave for free. But players like Clayton, Lonergran, McCormack were valued by their clubs to warrant a transfer fee even if they wanted to move them on. You can pick up some good free transfers, but to base most of your transfer activity on them is always going to lead to you having an average squad as appose to a good one.
yes i agree but i think when we got promoted, we were looking at staying in the league and it showed with our signings. I think now we are looking at getting promoted and we are starting to buy and i think we will buy both keogh and pugh in January
They'll be good signings. But we still messed up in the summer transfer window when we needed a top defender and only got O'Dea on loan.
Couldnt agree more, we need to be looking at a very decent CB in January if we are going to push. The summer was very poor from our point of view, we still didnt do too badly though considering the loan market
