Ristac, Becchio is actually a Leeds Legend, he holds number 10 spot behind Mick Jones on the Leeds United all time goal scorers list. It's going to take a good striker who's with us for about 4/5 seasons to dislodge him.
No way is Becchio a Leeds legend, and although he scored a lot of goals, they were against the likes of Walsall, Shrewsbury, Bristol Rovers etc. Mick Jones scored all his goals in top flight football and in Europe. Becchio might scrape into the top 75 most popular Leeds players of all time, and that's about it
I can see, and understand the point you're making however, whatever your opinion of Becchio Forza, no malice meant, but he's on the goal list, not popular list and that makes him a Leeds Legend, if he did come back, 2 goals would put him above Mick Jones.
Fans have differing views of a legend and is based sometimes on the fans age group. Personally, Ive been lucky to see the Revie and Wilko teams. They were real legends and pitted their talents against the worlds best. For someone maybe 20 years a supporter can be excused for having a differing view. They will have seen mainly rubbish with Becchio being a standout player among that lot. As much as I liked Becchio and Beckford theyre not fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Mick Jones. Doesnt meant Becchio cant still do a jobfor us in the short term. He might and certainly knows what Leeds is all about
With yesterday's formation I don't see how Bechhio will improve the squad, would you put Becchio in ahead of Sharp and Antenucci? I personally think both of those are better options. I could understand it more if the only strikers we had were Morison and Doukara. I think the formation yesterday and leaving so many new signings out of the squad and relying on Morison up front shows Redfearn really has lost it for ideas.
The words lost the dressing room spring to mind. Or at least lost the so called flair players that were signed to so much popular acclaim by the usual happy clappy brigade here.
I think yesterday was a pivotel moment. We got a draw away against a team in form as a direct result of a change of formation. Think if Redders sticks with 451 and whoever plays the loan role does what he is paid to, we'll progress up the division. If we go back diamond, we could end up 22nd if we're not careful.
One of the Wallie members will be on to say "I told you so" shortly and I hate to say they are right. They did say/warn this would happen with the low paid receive a bonus only if promoted players
I agree Eire, different age groups in different eras will have differing views, like you, I had the pleasure of watching leeds during the Revie years, but at an early age, later after joining Army and being stationed in Germany, it was only when on leave could I watch them at ER and mainly on the BFBS Telly, which were replays at later dates. Some younger fans say Becchio is a Leeds Legend because of the service and the goals he gave us while at Leeds, plus, he was a prolific goal scorer every season amassing 86 goals in all competitions, 19 of those before the first half of the 2012/2013 season was completed. What I also praise Becchio for is, he went about his job without any fuss or trouble, unlike McContract who kept hinting at having his contract extended or running to Skye Sports putting himself in shop window. On the other hand, different people have different views on who is a good player and who isn't, so everything in regards to football, players and teams is debateable. What we have to consider is, football today is different to football in Revies or Wilkos days, we have stars like Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, even though the game has changed, football itself has basically stayed the same with the exceptions of rules and formations. Leeds United have produced other Leeds Legends since the Revie era, Gordon Strachan, David Batty to name 2 and we'll produce Leeds Legends in the future because football itself moves on into different eras. While you and I, and others will be talking about Leeds Legends in our 80's, younger fans will be talking about their Leeds Legends of their era. For me, along with a lot of younger fans, I like to think Becchio is a Leeds Legend because of what he has achieved, and he's the only player since the Revie era to get into the Leeds top10 all time goal scorers list, that in itself is a great achievement. For the record, I wasn't comparing Becchio to Mick Jones or said he was better than Mick. I stand corrected, he's 2 goals behind Mick Jones, but I believe 1 goal is still debatable and not added to the list. http://www.motforum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=27906&sid=807a61eb151319ef28a65fd62f8574b6
Suffice to say LL, Becchio is a legend in his era. In the history of Leeds, probably not. Id still happily have the Becchio of three years ago back, but then again Id also have the Vinny Jones of 25 years ago but cant turn back the clock unfortunately
I think we'd all like Vinny jones of 25 years ago back Chippy, just for the sheer excitement he created.
He was fantastic for us, the stuff he did with the fans was the best I have ever seen, throwing the knife in the restruant less so!
