Sorry, I should have edited the quote a little better. What I was referring to was that the fans got onto the pitch during a goal celebration, and whether that was a question of self discipline or the ultimate responsibility of stewards. I wasn't referring to whether you knew any or the fans or not. Ultimately, if a fan wants to get onto a pitch, there is not a single thing a steward can do to stop it, under the present circumstances.
Prison? Get real. A friend of mine got jumped in street by three guys in a random attack. There was witnesses and we tracked them down via Facebook. These guys just got a talking too. The guy should def be banned but he won't do any time
He might actually, if you consider that it's not his first violent offence and they'll want to make an example of him. The maximum sentence for this form of battery (without doing any real damage) is 6 months in prison. I think he could well get a couple of months.
Ah..! Right, I see. Yeah, that does seem to be a bit odd. If I look at it from a steward's perspective, I would imagine I'm primarily concerned with keeping the people in front of me, staying in front of me. My suspicion would be that the stewards had their hands full just trying to contain the people, without breaking ranks to chase after a few idiots. That sort of thing can start other idiots running onto the pitch. The fact that the fan got back into the stand will be no protection for him. He'll be positively identified eventually. Either officially, unofficially or both.
Arh the old pass the buck , damage limitation thing ? I think its beacuse you are always playing second fiddle , now this is not a wind up I mean this , some of your fans do this moronic behaviour as some bizarre form of attention seeking . No one talks about the club really do they , I mean even your rivals are not rivals they hate Liverpool and City even more than you , you still call them scum though but as the modern word goes "meh" they dont like you but they hate others more . A violent rugby town with insecurity issues .
He was identified by Leeds fans within minutes, that won't get reported though. For ****'s sake man get a grip and read all of my comments on this thread.
One of the better threads about it however Leeds fans where celebrating the goal hence the smiles none of us even saw the incident never mind who did it, nobody patted him on the back like has been mentioned and he was named by Leeds fans ontwitter straight away!!! You wont find one Leeds fan who's proud of what happened
Good comments, Steinberg. Glad there's one non-Leeds fan who's being reasonable rather than moralizing and pontificating with sweeping generalizations. Look forward to our cup game... just don't play that arsehole Davis in net please.
Unfortunately you will, and can quite easily. But that's not an indictment of Leeds fans and more of the amount of idiots in the world. It was a ridiculous scene, and the scumbag should do a bit of time considering his history. And blame does belong on the shoulders of the stewards and of Wednesday for allowing it to happen, does it mean it should have happened, but it could and should have been stopped. But the sad thing is I could just as easily envision some pathetic little runt that calls himself a Saints fan doing the same to whoever the current Pompey keeper is in the same situation but with us and Pompey substituted. It could happen with almost any club in any situation, because simply there are some lowlife little kiddies out there who like the idea of playing football hooligan after watching too many Danny Dyer movies. The one thing we can be thankful of though, is that these days for the most part, there only little children like this who like to act like big bad hooligans, and not any actual ones terrorising our beautiful game. Because if there were in that situation, Kirkland receiving a strike to the face and a few seats being torn out would look like a Buckingham Palace tea party compared to what could have happened.
If you dont have barriers this will happen , its not the stewarding its the system and the person responsible .
Stewards appear en masse in front of away fans at the end of a game, but during the game are a thin line since no one expects an idiot to disrupt the game (especially when they've just scored). Most people who clear the barrier just jump up and down. Thy can't stop one determined person unless thay had riot shields and tasers (now there's an idea).
Fran The stewards where actually dealing with the group of Sheffield wednesday fans chanting about Istanbul when the goal went hence the low steward count leading to the incident, bad incident but can't tie us all in with that I've followed Leeds for 16 years and never seen anything like that, worst I've seen was Cardiff 2002 throwing bottles of pee coins n anything they could find at us but it wasn't too serious.
