As i have already mentioned Simon the sheer consistency of Leeds' issues is why no one has sympathy with the club. Yes other clubs have issues and have been guilty of incidents and yes they are "mindless morons" but to re iterate my point the incidents you have raised do not spread across the whole of football (infact you name 4 and as I've already said 95% of football goes by without any such incident, hence my comment of "never seeing anything near those scenes in my time supporting Ipswich") neither are these incidents over a stretch or prolonged period of time, (not to excuse these other incidents) but... the only club to have had the level of consistency in hooliganism in football over the years is Leeds, hence the level of animosity toward you. Which can only be expected given everyone from every football club you have ever played against has had a negative experience of Leeds United (not something that any other club can brag about) which to me illustrates that You as a club are the problem and its a problem that needs to be dealt with
While I admit that leeds do have a larger than normal amount of idiots or morons or whatever you want to call them, it doesn't take away from the huge amount of great supporters we have either. To wish that leeds united's fanbase gets punished for this is just hiding away from the real problem. How many incidents would you say that leeds united has when compared to another club? I would hazard a guess that while Leeds would be very high, it wouldn't be the highest in the country. Leeds have done a hell of a lot to try and take these kind of fans away from elland road and stop them supporting and ruining the club, so far it has worked a lot because these type of incidents have occured far less than they used to and this work is still ongoing I'm afraid to say that a fair few posters on here are letting there pure hatred of my club get in the way of there otherwise neutral views on the situation, if you are unable to understand where the average leeds fan is coming from then to put it bluntly, your and idiot
Iâm only seeing bigotry on this board. Leeds havenât been involved in serious hooliganism for years, and when it has happened it has been widely condemned by all Leeds fans. The only reason Leeds have a bad image is because people choose to give the club one, instead of judging incidents rationally, and fairly. A section of Sunderland fans chanted yesterday they wished Steven Taylor was dead, have all Sunderland fans been branded vile animals and been subjected to a witch hunt? No. Imagine if Leeds fans had done that, what would the reaction be?
i think that's fair comment. leeds travel in decent numbers everywhere they go, so its inevitable they will get a minority who travel looking to 'live up' to the 'leeds stereotype', but that doesn't excuse it - norwich regularly take 3k+ to away games and as i say, there is never any trouble. it may be a minority of supporters who cause trouble but the leeds minority is a far higher percentage than most other clubs. you have a reputation because it is justified. its wrong to say all leeds fans are vile or scum - that simply isn't true - but you do possess a very large amount of fans who go looking for trouble and from the outside it is not clear that anything is ever done to deal with this minority and your manager did your club no favours the other evening with his reaction which was awful to be honest. taken in isolation, we could pinpoint at least one incident with every single set of fans in the country i expect, but i bet you that many of those incidents will also involve leeds being the opponents.
Unfortunately because of the same Leeds stereotype you mention earlier, I've seen fans on the fringes of Leeds city centre trying desperately to get something to kick off, and I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they managed to find someone who was willing to oblige. It's a self perpetuating stereotype that the club has done a hell of a lot of to eradicate over the years.
Totally agree with that. I've seen some of our more stupid fans trying to goad supporters of other teams on the way to the ground. My mate's a West ham season ticket holder and he said there's always soemone tyrying to start it against them.
Only loosely connected with events but can I ask when Exodus changed his avatar to Jimmy Saville? Im guessing its recently and that it was only done to annoy/ offend others. If Im correct then that is exactly the kind of mindset that makes people consider thats leeds fans are thugs and idiots. It doesnt take many to give the whole group a bad reputation unfortunately. I know from matchdays at Portman Road that Leeds fans in the main are amongst the most passionate and vocal but the actions of 5% are always going to overshadow that of the main group.
"I’m only seeing bigotry on this board. Leeds haven’t been involved in serious hooliganism for years" It was Friday. And then there's all the anecdotal evidence. See my earlier comment.
19 arrests is 19 arrests too many, but as have been said there is a small minority in every club. Hopefully Leeds will identify the scum who bought the ticket for him and identify every single fan who patted him on the back when he got in the crowd and ban them too.
lets not just focus on the muppet who thumped kirkland... coins, seats and other missiles were constantly thrown from the away section on friday night. that isn't one or two individuals doing that. yes disgusting songs were sung by wednesday fans though i'm not sure leeds fans can take the moral high ground on that seeing as i've witnessed in person them singing the munich song and they sang songs about dave jones on friday. what is this - tit for tat? ****ing disgraceful behaviour from both sets of fans. leeds have long had issues and i personally don't think they've ever done enough to stamp it out. you'll always get idiots but the percentage of idiots leeds have is bigger than anyone else. i'll never forget walking back from carrow road and having to step in to protect a young mum and her child from being attacked by leeds fans after our league one clash a few years ago. i along with two 'larger' norwich fans stepped in and they soon scarpered, but it was not an isolated incident. these were grown men, targeting the weak. they were cowards just like that pillock who hit kirkland. just to put that into perspective, norwich did not have a single incident in ANY other league one match that season, home or away. where leeds go, trouble follows.
Thats the point that the dumb **** leeds fans don't get, yes there was 19 arrest during our derby game, but that is out of around 24,000 ipswich fans. you take the ratio of 24,000 leeds fans you would be looking into hundreds of arrest not the high teens! and you also have to question the offences aswell, I can safely say never in my time will i see ITFC or NCFC fans attack young mums and kids, throw objects at disabled fans or run on the pitch and attack a player. there are only a couple of clubs you would imagine that happening one of them seem to have got their house in order, the other is leeds!
Millwall was the one i was referring too, they probably had a worse image than Leeds but are sorting it out. Until Leeds make an example out of every single person involved on their side (i.e. the person that supplied the ticket, to all the idiots who ran on the pitch and threw things, to the ****s who slapped him on the back and let him run away) every decent leeds fans, and there are quite a few will be tarnished!
guru, the problem is, some leeds fans think they are picked on, while others love the fact they think they are picked on! truth is, they aren't picked on - the reason they get grief for this sort of thing is because they are the club constantly involved in these incidents. they aren't highlighted because 'its leeds'; they are highlighted cos they happen. i've always enjoyed norwich v leeds matched because a) you guarantee an atmosphere in the ground, which isn't always the case with some clubs, arsenal on saturday were quiet as a mouse and b) they are normally good, close contests and enjoyable matches to watch. what i don't look forward to is encountering leeds fans before and after the match. there's always been trouble, irrespective of how well each team is doing or the result. we have good relationships with many fans of other clubs, big clubs, where rival fans can happily drink and chat together before and after matches, yet leeds we cannot. that isn't because of norwich fans behaviour - that's down to the leeds fans behaviour. yet still it is denied by many...
The point we are all trying to make is that when there have been issues in football the majority of cases have involved Leeds, yes there are some exceptions but they have been the odd event here and there and although terrible and with no place in the game they are nothing like the consistent nature of those undertaken by Leeds 'fans' Hiding behind a few examples from other clubs does not cover up the bang obvious issues that are facing Leeds and their supporters
Spot on Supers - said pretty much the same thing on an earlier post. Leeds fans can be great during matches but the handful of idiots and the general attitude of attention seeking (saying/ doing something to make yourself recognised) can ruin what would otherwise be one of the better match day experiences.
not being funny, but if leeds fans are so rightous, how come not one single fan made any attempt to apprehend that ****ing slimy ****ing coward of a 'fan' when he was running back through the crowd?
in my opinion, too much isolation has been given to that prick who assaulted kirkland. what about all the other stuff that went on that night?! that was just as bad... i personally think many leeds fans are getting away with it seeing as it wasn't just him that was throwing seats and coins all over the place.
