Kind of get a lot of that - but, to me, now I've had time to think about it, We were playing OK and fell to bits at their first goal - but it was more of a Shrewsbury saw the keeping weakness and started testing it. The second goal, whilst people said Vokins needs to be closer, the ball dropped inside the back post less than 5 yards out. Keeper should just have come and caught it (even if he punched it I'd feel better but it was an easy catch I think that I, at 45 years old and 5' 6" could've made) and he stood completely motionless.

I don't blame Johnson in any way for picking Matthews. Not at all. I wanted him to play and I stand by that after the way Burge has played. In the post match, I don't even want him on the bench!!

Agree we technically weren;t that bad in chances dreated. Could (and probably should) have been 2 or 3 up by half time (on chances not performance) and had 2 good chances second half too. Profligacy cost us again.

That said, I have no idea why their 3rd was not given. Nobody looked offside but, if the guy stood in front of Matthews was, then he's technically in the keepers eyeline so he should be given offside. That or the linesman felt sorry for Matthews!!

When i said my first doubt crept in I mean if he's up to getting us up this season.
Barring us imploding now and dropping down the table I'd like to see him here at the start of next season.

We bought crap players on silly wages which ultimately led to our relegation from the Premier League. The owner then pulled the plug and sat back and watched us fall through the Championship trap door. Then when it was too late he found his conscience and paid the clubs debts off but sold the club to a couple of morons who dont know how to run a football club. They hired the wrong manager in Jack Ross who had by the best and most expensive squad in the League. They then made the mistake of not sacking him after the play off final and allowed him to drag his dour ****e into the following season. We they finally woke up we were already playing catch up. They then hired possibly the worst manager possible in Phil Parkinson as he was the cheap option. We know how that went.

Sacking bad managers isnt the reason we are in League One. Its hiring bad managers that has contributed to where we are now. You don't stick with a bad manager though.

And there's the crux, is Johnson the man to do it ?
Time will tell, and I believe he needs more time.
But as the resources and back up staff are replenished he'll have no excuses like his predecessors.
I certainly hope he does the business.

Tin hat on, I liked Jack Ross and feel he was hamstrung by the owners. I know for a fact that he had to deal with absolutely loads of ****e behind the scenes during his tenure here when he should have just been able to crack on trying to get the best out of the squad.

The players signed by the likes of Coton in that first summer (most of whom are still stinking the place out) weren’t good enough and even though people say we had the best squad in the league I’d point out that our centre backs were woeful, the defending from the pair of them during the 5-4 loss to Coventry is up there with the worst I’ve ever seen.

No surprise in the second half of the season results nose-dived when we lost Maja and ended up with Will Grigg up front. Then in the summer after the play off final the squad was weakened yet again.

I’d certainly rather we kept Ross than sack him and hire that chump Phil Parkinson. The former seems to be doing a good job at Hibernian too.

Results worsened and draws came thick and fast after he changed it though. We were scoring a fair number of goals and winning quite a lot prior to him changing it then for whatever reason **** himself and tried to defend our way up drawing all time. Losing Maja didn't change much at the time, we were still scoring at the same rate after he left as we were before he left and drawing everything.

People keep blaming the transfer of Maja but it didn't actually change much results or goals wise at the time but it continually gets spouted around.

If you transferred those twenty results to this season we would be just behind Hull with a game in hand over them, exactly how it was for all that season, a game behind and a point or two behind.

First 15 games or so would've seen us promoted comfortably if we had continued it but we had already reverted to defensive draws long before we sold Maja.

Arguably he had to change tack though because he didn't have the players to sustain the high press. Without Maja as the focal point, you're trying to play a high energy game with Wyke or Grigg as one of the lead parts of the press. You're then expecting older players like McGeady, Cattermole or Leadbitter to support that press. Those players aren't going to be able to sustain the energy levels needed for that type of game over a whole season.

Without Maja as the focal point, you're trying to play a high energy game with Wyke or Grigg as one of the lead parts of the press. You're then expecting older players like McGeady or Cattermole to support that press. Those players aren't going to be able to sustain the energy levels needed for that type of game over a whole season.

He crapped himself despite the good results we were getting, he changed formations and they way we were playing and it resulted in us drawing all the time. He didn't need to do it and it had bugger all to do with Maja leaving in the slightest as he changed it long before he left. He suddenly decided we needed to keep clean sheets, the result was less goals but we were still conceding at the same rate and he didn't have the balls to change it back.

Far as I can figure, that season we scored 48 with Maja and 35 after he left, I'd say that was a difference. Arguably a crucial one.
