Can definitely see him being our new manager now, especially after Bates ruled out McCarthy. Not the worst manager and in all fairness, Huddersfield have only lost 3 league games all season, so he must know how to organise a defence properly. Still would have preferred a manager with more experience though...
He said we haven't been in contact. Not really ruling him out. I don't know much about Clark really, but in my ignorance I wouldn't be displeased to see him as manager. Warnock, Antic or McCarthy would still be my favourites though.
Please no! Not Lee Clark, i don't see him as an improvement from Grayson at all. I'm sure he will be a great manager one day, just not now. He has failed to Get Hudds promoted on a pretty big budget. We need a proven Championship manager who can get us promoted, Warnock or McCarthy, i don't like either man, but they have a proven track record of getting clubs out of this league. Lee Clark will be a mistake. Although in bates eyes he is cheap i suppose.. We need a proven manager, Clark has done nothing of any note. /disapointed
Don't enjoy being the one who seems to back Bates (on the contrary), but sacking Grayson isn't the worst idea in the world. Limited budget or not, he bought in some utter ****e, and had no tactical nous or defensive know-how. I know he will become a very good manager someday, and it's a shame it's not with the club he supports, but some of the performances and defeats under him were simply embarrassing. 6-4 Preston? 5-0 Blackpool? 4-1 Birmingham? Nothing is worse than a proper spanking like that, especially at home. So thank you for what you've done Grayson, but now we need to forget about him and move on!
Move on to who? Clark who has done worse with more money? "Redders"? Our season's over because Grayson was sacked. As Loiner said earlier look at Grayson's record with actual money signings, pretty decent.
Move on to whoever gets the job full time. Remember I don't particularly want Clark, and I hope to God Redfearn doesn't get it, but if they do, the last thing they want to hear is us fans bemoaning them before they've even had a chance (Redfearn however, has had his chance as far as I'm concerned - yesterday was simply diabolical). The players, for one reason or another, weren't performing under Grayson. This isn't the best team in the world, but we have a half decent squad and there's no way we should be losing to the likes of Coventry. We need to sort it out, and a new manager could well be what we need.
We went on one dodgy run of form and were 3 points off the play-offs. Imagine the team we'd have if Larry was backed with a wee bit of money and was allowed to keep his best players.
It wasn't one dodgy run. Look at the bigger picture. In the promotion season, we dropped a 11 point lead and just scrapped promotion (obviously that's all that counts in the end though), then last season we went from 2nd at the end of December to 7th. This to me suggests that our form would have continued. Add onto the 'freak' results that happened under Grayson: Leeds 0 Swindon 3, Leeds 0 Blackpool 5 Leeds 2 Preston 6, Barnsley 4 Leeds 1, Barnsley 5 Leeds 2 and there's more. Also, I think he lost the dressing room. This is just my opinion, but I think that fact that no players have spoken out and praised him since he left suggest this. The whole AOB thing too. He spent money. We've signed a total of 55 players in his 3 years at the club. That's ridiculous. Loans aren't cheap - McCartney, Livermore, Bannan etc. cost money. And believe it or not, old Billy Paynter will be on good money - we signed him when he'd just been top scorer in League One. There'd have been a few clubs interested. Then you've got the players whose contracts we paid up - Jason Crowe, Bessone. You talk about him losing his best players as well. He's in charge of signings. He chose to sell Howson. He didn't rate Johnson and Kilkenny that highly - dropping them for Bannan and Livermore, playing Johnson on the left, all suggest this. His record in the transfer market is truly awful. The loans and freebies were his choices, and players like Forsell, Varynen that he signs but doesn't play. You say his money signings were good... Collins (he decided wasn't good enough after 6 months). Bruce (he decided wasn't good enough after 8 months). McCormack (didn't really play much in his first season). Danny Pugh (...). When he's spent money (and he does on loans too) on transfer fees, the outcome hasn't always been great. He did the job in League One just about, but it was the right time to leave.
To say we have been on one dodgy run is to me just backing grayson blindly. I really wanted Grayson to do well, he's a likeable person and he genuinely was trying to make it work but he is just not good enough to get us promotion, he'd run out of ideas. Basically what Best Fans said. How many games have we looked truly good this season, played with our free flowing attack like we did last season. Can think of maybe 1 or 2 games, Hull City and Doncaster. Forget about Simon Grayson now, look forward not back. Not saying everything is OK but we do need to look forward. Whoever is the manager, fans need to back him regardless. Its not like signing a new player where people have already decided hes no good before he plays.
Sacking grayson is not the point as it was a 50/50 decision with many arguments to prove it was both right and wrong. The issue is a quality replacement should have been appointed quickly. The club should have moved quickly and now its too late as with redfearn in charge weve thrown away 6 points that have pretty much ended our season
Yea completely agree. I wouldn't say its ended our season but a new manager would truly have to do something special here now
Exactly, we are turning into a joke of a club while Bates is in charge, we nearly started the season with no keeper due to wage negotiations as we were linked with one keeper after another. We sell the club captain and get Delph in for one lousy month, we sack the manager when the transfer deadline has passed and without a replacement lined up. Bates is a ****ing joke. Now because we have left it so late yes we are 6 points down the drain and we will be competing with Wolves and Huddersfield for a new man in charge. If we go for Clark it will be another piss taking exercise on Bates behalf. A manager with less experience, done nothing and had more money at his disposal than Grayson ever had.
Lee Clark would just be a sideways step from Grayson. A good long term appointment would be Freedman but I'm fed up looking long term and impatience has got the better of me. There's only one person who fits the bill and who'd get instant results and that's Warnock.
Someone who posts on another City forum and lives in Uddersfield is claiming that the Udders chairman found out that Clark met with Leicester without permission.
Clark won,t know what hit him if he comes to Leeds he had the best chairman in Football now he gets the opposite ion my view he his without doubt and I have said this many times totally useless as a manager with his squad which cost 10x what grayson has had he produced nothing always getting beat by teams around him had no plan B infact had no plan period
We won't appoint anyone until after the Doncaster game according to Bates, which to me sounds like 'I'll start looking and drawing up a shortlist after the Doncaster game'. He should've tried looking at potential replacements straight away. The frustrating thing is, like him or not, he's normally pretty quick at bringing in managers.
