I'm not sure HMRC would get personal like that. Their primary role is to collect taxes on behalf of the country and as such would be going a little 'off piste' to settle for less just to make a point. Obviously HMRC don't deduct points but the PL will look to whatever judgement is made as an indicator of whether to impose any football sanctions beyond the financial ones imposed by HMRC. As there are no specific rules In place for guidelines on deductions for transfer dealings my gut feel is any points sanction will be below the 10+ points for going into administration as there is clearly a grey are here. This is what Ashley's legal team will argue on appeal anyway..
Obviously none of us have the full story so we don't know what is going on yet, though I seem to remember you have some fairly reliable contacts/sources. I have a bad feeling about this. A very bad feeling.
Aye. It's far too early and we don't know the full facts. If we have done some serious **** though then we deserve whatever punishment is handed out.
Let's just say that they are keeping quiet at the moment. The inspectors are at the club as we speak. Charnley was carted off around 8.15am.
Don't be so sure. From what I heard from (fairly) reliable sources is that the Rangers case got very vindictive and personal.
Well someone needs to ask HMRC why they are letting personal feelings get in the way of them carrying out their duties to the scope of their remit. Rangers were hard done by I seem to remember.
I thought all the players coming in were paid for in cash by the club. Possibly individuals have been dodging their tax bills . Bet it was Ashley who tipped them off so he could get rid of Charnley at nil cost AND get a transfer embargo for next season so that he doesn't have to spend any of the lucre coming his way.
Meaningless at this point. I am sure I will hear snippets coming out of the ground. The HMRC inspectors are going over everything with a toothcomb
I wonder if it may have anything to do with players getting paid for " image rights " and not declaring it.
I agree. If they had got their way they would have sold Ibrox and completely dismantled the existing club, even though it would have led to reduced tax income in the future. If they had got their way Rangers would have ceased to exist completely rather than starting again from the bottom of the Scottish league system.
Or possibly the method of how the image rights earnings are paid meaning either none or lower than required amounts are being paid.
