They arrested him this morning but apparently didn't formally question him. Then he was released without charge at 5pm.
**** knows... possibly wanted him out of the way while they searched? Would indicate that there's no where enough evidence for them to think they can get a conviction against him personally though. Could be it's more of a club issue than him personally
Essentially a big hullabaloo about nothing - and Sunderland got beat. Standard day for a Newcastle supporter
It's still guesswork but i would surmise 1. HMRC don't have sufficient evidence to incriminate Penfold (as opposed to the Club generally - they may also not have sufficient evidence to incriminate the Club either) 2. They did just want to prevent him from taking any action. Not sure whether that's a legal tactic by itself. 3. If they bail him then they have to give a date when he has to return and this could be the early stages of a long enquiry particularly as the French are also involved. 4. Releasing without charge doesn't mean he's free as he can easily be re-arrested later in the enquiries. It would suggest that there is no obvious or currently known evidence damning the Club and/or Penfold. There is obviously a lot of enquiries to conduct and will take quite some time to conclude. I very much doubt anything will be decided prior to the new season starting and so i expect we will start in the PL. It doesn't mean that the club and/or Penfold are in the clear. It just means everyone will have to wait until the next action or statement from HMRC is taken or made. Sadly, without inside information only a few people know what's happening and they aren't going to tell until they are ready.
Objection your Honour, the Useless Defendant is clearly trying to confuse the court with waffle and hearsay.
So, you're basically saying that Penfold is some sort of criminal mastermind, with neither British or French authorities able to pin anything on him. He's obviously outwitted them all.
If anyone could then he probably could. Not by genius, but by sheer ****wittery and incompetence, A bit like Diame's 'chip' against Brighton.
