Good suggestion about Curbs though ...interview in the Guardian from him yesterday saying that he wants to get back into football and worked with Bowyer as a player. Would be the ideal pairing for us.
Dear Andrew Muir, Please do the sensible thing if you take over next week, not only for the long term benefit of Charlton, but also as a first step to repair the fractured relationship between our fans and the Club. Give Lee Bowyer a long term contract as manager. No ifs or buts or Harry Kewells. Bowyer has performed near miracles after the disgrace that was Gobbo. He understands the club and has earned the chance to build his own side. Give that man the job
And if some servile smarmy guy called Murray comes oozing up to you pestering you for a place on the board, please feel free to offer a years ban from the club, to be extended if the grovelling toadying persists.
Wasn’t it nauseating to see the pictures of Murray creaming up to Andrew Muir last night. I bet Murray is sweating buckets right now, worrying whether there is a role for him under the Aussies.
Sickening. Like one of those idiots you get at weddings who want to be in all the photo's, even when it's just the bride and groom.
Bowyer's case for being appointed as permanent manager is weaker than it was a month ago. He's done a decent job, but seems just as wedded to the diamond as Robinson was to 4-2-3-1. He could have used Marshall to get some width, or JdS as a wide player, but stuck to his guns with the diamond. It would probably have made no difference, how can you expect to get promoted with 2 non-scoring strikers, and the only back-up is a disinterested loanee? So there is a rebuilding job needed, and our scouting system, if there is one, has had little success, although it's probably restricted by Roland's obsession with cheapness. If Bowyer gets the job he'll need help with recruitment from someone who knows the lower divisions. There must be players out there.
Its only weaker because we didn't get into play offs...the only fault I would lay at Bowyer's door during his tenure is that he allowed to the team to coast at Rochdale. Then we lost momentum. Harry Kewell is in no way, shape or form a upgrade on Lee Bowyer. Mick McCarthy maybe...
I'd be taking a look oop north, to where the manager of Accrington Stanley has done a fantastic job on very limited resources.
I admit I've lost a bit of enthusiasm after 3 consecutive 1-0 losses. He's got no record on recruitment, which is where managers stand or fall, and how much does he know about the sort of players we'd be looking for?
Jokes aside, I honestly think Lee Bowyer could be our Neill Harris. He has a Curbs-like Zen calmness about him, and you don't get all the hoopla that comes attached to Powell. All he needs is experience. These players are sh1te - Magennis and Ajose couldnt score in a brothel with a £50 note tied around their wotsits ...give the man the tools to do the job this summer, and watch him go
that's what bothers me, getting the right tools. SCP was still in the game, and was able to bring in players he knew would do a job. If Bowyer gets the job I'd give him a couple of seasons to get the sort of squad needed to go up. I'd be quite happy with that as long as we were on the right track, but I still think he needs an old head beside him. Curbs maybe isn't that man, since he's young enough to be manager himself.
There are so many non entities looking for managers jobs - we have to be careful. Hopefully Paul Elliott will give valuable insight. I know that @baraettmattesvensson wants to see Steve Cotterill get the Charlton manager's job
