How many undeserving players push to get a contract extension or do the opposite and choose to see out their contract in order to leave? I understand that King is "damaged goods" in the sense that his knee is a real b***h, but he has the attitude that all footballers should have. Football first, contract can wait till end of the season!

He deserves to stay at Spurs until he chooses to leave. Spurs should never release him. Give him a job in coaching, PR, assistant manager!!!!!!

Tottenham defender Ledley King is happy to leave discussions over his future at the club until the end of the season.

King, who suffers from a chronic knee problem, is out of contract at the end of the season and manager Harry Redknapp said earlier this term that he would have to play at least 20 games to earn a new one.

The Spurs club captain has made 15 appearances so far this year, helping the North Londoners to third in the table as they mount a Premier League title push.

The 31-year-old, who has spent his entire career at White Hart Lane, says he is in no rush to open talks over his future.

He said: "I've left it between my agent and the chairman and I have not heard anything at the moment.

"I'm just keeping my head down and playing as many games as I can and at the end of the season we will see where that is."
 
Can't question his commitment or effort this season and every season past. He will get another year at least, he deserves it. He needs to be kept in the fold when he retires as well. He's a little too fond of the Old Juice, it would be a criminal if he went down that road.
 
King Leddleys involvement this season has been instrumental to the position we (spurs) now find ourshelves in.
There should be no doubt, his contribution to the cause this season has be immense. Quietly going about his business on the field, with that confident air of authority, grace and power. A very talented footballer (always has been) with the ability to make retional decisions quickly and decisively.
Without doubt A CLASS FOOTBALLER., naturally., and there should be NO TALK OF HIM LEAVING.
A spurs man through and through, he must certainly should be offered a management/coaching roll somewhere at Spurs.

No Spurs fan would doubt that he deserves a new contract; Levy should be begging him to sign. However it takes a level of humility for a footballer to say "I've heard nothing, I'm not worrying about it, I'll see to it at the end of the season".
 
His is one of the first names I look for on the selected team sheet. IMO he is a true joy to watch.
It will be a sad day for me when he decides to hang-up his playing boots.
 
When you see King you relax, you know that whatever happens he is the best man to deal with it. His mere presence has a calming effect and that must rub off on the other players.

The number of posters suggesting his retirement 3 years ago just shows their lack of appreciation of the game. Ledley Kings do not come around that often a real gem and a Spurs legend. I just hope he wins another trophy before he retires.
 
Just to prove that point Spurf, in the Newcastle game he took the ball off (not sure if was Ba or Cisse) with a perfect sliding tackle in the pen area.
Then calmly cleared it to a teamate.
I suspect that all is ok on the contract front but the media outlets would want us to think otherwise.

Couldn't agree more.

Legends don't exist much these days, we should move heaven and earth to ensure our one stays.
 
Some teams are blessed when great players choose to play for the team they support: Best at United, Keegan at Liverpool, Shearer at the Toon, Le Tissier at Saints, and Ledley at Spurs.

In a world of plastic badge-kissers, such as Fabregas, Nasri and Henry, it's nice to know that there are some genuinely decent footballers around, still.

A lot of people thought Shearer was crazy for not switching to United and claimed that he would regret it if he never won a trophy again. I wonder if being the all time Premier League top scorer (for now) and obtaining legend status at the club that he supported was worth it for him. I have nothing but admiration for him for making that decision and I cannot recall him ever having any regrets.

Le Tissier as well! He was one of the most gifted strikers of the 90s. Its a travesty that he was overlooked by England. One of the most composed finishers around; his penalty record of 47 goals in 48 is unrivalled, even by Shearer. Another model professional who showed more for the club that he loved than for his own personal ambition. Some would call that foolish, I'd call it humble.
