Good qtn, if no one leaves I'd be happy enough with that! We've got such a great bunch who all play for each other, any of them going could have a negative impact.
I don't see any need for a mass exodus with the current squad of 24 senior players who did so well last year. A new LB could make 25, and then Chris Martin could go out on loan again if a new striker comes in. Barnett could do the same if CH brings in a new CB and maybe Crofts or Lappin if a DMF is brought in. As CH has said, 'evolution not revolution'! OTBC!
Crofts and Lappin would be my choices to leave. If we can get a fair price for Chris Martin, then I think he should go too.
Certainly cover at left back (assuming Tierney has returned to fitness) and a 'holding midfielder' would be my choices to come in.
Can see Lappin, Barnett, Chris Martin heading out on a Transfer. Smith, Adeyemi and Francomb out on loan. I hope we keep Crofts. He is a honest hard working player. Plus he can pop up with a goal. just needs a chance.
Interesting choices, but to replace them with better with the relatively meagre budget we've got may be difficult.
If you believe some of the media reports, then Jackson is on his way to Bristol City (becoming a robin instead of a canary), so maybe you'll get half of your wish. I'd quite like Morison to stay and hope he doesn't have the dip in form/disinterest that he showed for a lot of the second half of last season.

Jackson simply needs to get his confidence up in front of goal, then he'll be fantastic. He's also young, so has plenty of room for improvement. You need to see his work off the ball to fully understand the impact he has on the pitch, as well as how he works in concert with the other attackers. There is little point having a striker who isn't a team player - some of his interplay with Holt this season has been fantastic (e.g. against Wolves) and he stretches defences at the right times.
We simply cannot afford to go burning our meagre budget improving our strikeforce, when any improvement will be (a) risky and (b) probably negligible. Particularly in comparison to the effect strengthening other positions with that money would have.

Don't like the football we resort to when Morison plays and technically he's really poor, he's not really a target man as he can't hold the ball up. He's pretty much just an aerial threat in front of goal. Jackson just doesn't do enough for me, he's OK but I never feel like he's going to score when I watch him.
So, I guess you weren't watching Jackson in the 2nd half of the championship season then carrubah? He more than anyone else was responsible for our promotion. He needs more confidence in front of goal, it will come given some playing time
No I saw it all, I just don't think he makes himself available for the ball enough and his touch isn't great. I don't think I've ever criticised (on here anyway) someone for not scoring, its the other parts of the game I want improved.
i think we need a pacey striker. holt is getting slower and Morrison is slow. jackson is our only fast striker we need 1 more i think who is fast and can shoot. we have about 20+ miliion for the whole season for transfers and we haven't used hardly nothing of that yet so we can afford at least 1 good striker or even more
obviously this is just a guess, but i'd say to replace both morison and jackson with two better strikers would cost the club around £12m in transfer fees alone. it would be madness to sell either of them at this moment, especially as both are capable of doing a decent job at this level. carrabuh, as usual, has vastly underestimated both players capabilities.

I'd go for some pace as well. But mostly I want a striker who is technically good as I think they'd link up well with the likes of Howson, Butterfield, Fox, Surman and Hoolahan (looking at it, that sounds a pretty impressive array of players at our disposal)
well that i agree with.
but good luck finding that striker within our budget! we need to be patient - we must stay up next season so that we can afford to shop for players who may cost more. we've got some very good, technical players in midfield but to supply a top striker will cost millions and millions that we don't have.
Don't be daft, so in order to get better you have to pay 3 times as much as what the current players are worth. Your also forgetting the money in for the players.

Look Carrabuh, put it this way:
In the league I'm going to rate us out of ten in each area. This is very simplistic, so although that is broadly how I'd rate our team compared to Man City who would get 9s across the board, it is simply illustrative.
Goalkeeper: 6
Fullbacks: 5
Centre-halves: 5
Central midfield: 6
Wingers: 6
Strikers: 6
To improve our strike force to a 7, which is where Newcastle are (having scored 56 goals to our 52), I would say we need to spend about £8m (minimum) on a striker unless we got very, very lucky. It's all very well criticising Jackson for his touch or positioning or whatever (neither of which I think are bad at all, in fact), but it's simply deluded to think we can improve on that much without spending big, which we can't afford. Any player that represents an improvement on Jackson will be eyed up by other prem teams too.
By contrast, to improve our fullbacks to a 6, I think we would need to spend £4m (max). Same goes for central defence.
Obviously this is hugely simplistic, but the point is we could essentially improve our entire defence considerably for the cost of a minor improvement up front (and a hugely risky one at that).
Ultimately, our strike force was bettered only by the top six last year, so anyone who thinks it is the part of our team that needs improving is not really thinking straight. Of course, we would love to have players of the level of Van Persie, but that's simply not realistic is it? For the price and range we are competing in, I can assure you we have just about maximised the potency of our strike force. Give it a few years of premier league money and then we could get to the sort of levels you are wanting, in the meantime we should be patient and grateful for the remarkable talent we have got on the cheap.
