Aber, I don't agree with your comment about MBSL's avatar (badge). The military is a community of people who joined the armed forces for various reasons. Not everyone joined to fight and not everyone does fight. There are endless differences for and against the military, but the bottom line is they are there to protect our country.
I served in the army for 12 years and had an awesome time. I did see active service, but on the whole, I enjoyed all the benefits life in the military offered me. However, that was a long time ago and I have different views on the military these days. Ever more the British military is being used as a means to an end by money and power hungry people (Government & Big corporations). I would never join the army of today.
I won't go into the whole argument that the US created ISIS, I know the history of ISIS, the Taliban, etc. I am pretty much up to speed on that. My point is, the military is being used as a tool to create wealth for the rich.
Recruitment is done in impoverished areas where some people see it as a way out, others do see it as a way of bettering themselves, those that join to kill people are weeded out in basic training, so not all military folk are psychotic killing machines. As with any large community, you get the bad apples. once in they are obliged to carry out tasks given them, under the promise they will be looked after. Well isn't that a load of bullshit. The British government does the least possible for the armed forces, but it is getting better, thanks to pressure from organisations like the RBL and SSAFA. The publicity they have given the poor after service treatment has been immense, but much more needs to be done.
