Aye, we let you Irish be British.

Britain is an island like Ireland. We have a governmental system which allows non-Brits. Irish/Gibraltarians etc to hold a British passport and citizenship.

However, you are not and never shall be "British by birth".

I, a Catholic raised Celtic fan with ancestry from Cork will always be more British than you. Solely on the basis of being born on the Island of Britain.

    Venom: British to the core

    Medro: Irish with British citizenship.

Fiddle de dee. You keep believing that my Guinness-chugging, soda-bread munching moronic Paddy.

    I'm a true Brit and you're a paper Brit.

That means I was born in Britain and you're British because of a piece of paper.

    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/britishcitizenship/aboutcitizenship/Britishcitizenship/

If you were born in the UK before 1 January 1983, you are almost certainly a British citizen. The only exception is if you were born to certain diplomatic staff of foreign missions who had diplomatic immunity.

If you were born in the UK on or after 1 January 1983, you are a British citizen if at the time of your birth one of your parents was:

    - a British citizen; or
    - legally settled in the UK.

    Hope this helps.
