So today Portsmouth FC Ladies won the FA Premier League Southern Division following a 2-1 victory over Plymouth.
Throughout the game, Portsmouth were generally the better team (although there were a few periods when Plymouth were on top) and created lots of chances but a combination of wayward finishing and good defending meant that it stayed 0-0 for a while (we had two shots cleared off the line). Plymouth took the league against the run of play with a decent counter-attack and good finish. A loss would have meant that only a win would do in Portsmouth's final league game so Portsmouth went in search of an equaliser. Plymouth defended well and Portsmouth seemed to try to pass it in rather than just lumping it into the box (which sometimes is necessary). The equaliser finally came with a well taken corner that was headed in, giving the keeper no chance. Sensing the victory, Portsmouth went on the attack and the winner came from a cross which was unfortunately turned into the Plymouth net by a Plymouth player. The last five or so minutes, Plymouth tried to go for the equaliser and it was very tense, but fortunately for Portsmouth, they managed to prevent Plymouth scoring again. With the final whistle, the celebrations began as Portsmouth finish top! Overall, Portsmouth were okay and made some excellent through passes and could have scored more. Likewise, Plymouth hit the crossbar so could have scored more as well.
Anyhow, it was generally an enjoyable game and well done to Portsmouth Ladies and their manager Vanessa Raynbird!!!!
Might upload a few pictures from the game in a bit!
