Here are the remaining games for Charlton and all our current play-off rivals this season. Home games are in red, away in black. Last update: 1st May 9:45pm Charlton Athletic (6th) ... 71 points ... WIN Scunthorpe United ... lose Gillingham ... Saturday 5th May After every game involving one of these teams I will enter the result, and update the positions and points. This can help us to keep track of the final month of the play-off place competition... below are the play-off fixtures as they would look if the season ended now. I will keep this up to date as well. Play-off semi-finals round 1 Scunthorpe United V Rotherham United Charlton Athletic V Shrewsbury Town Play-off semi-finals round 2 Rotherham United V Scunthorpe United Shrewsbury Town V Charlton Athletic
List updated 7th April; Charlton still just about in the play-offs. Plymouth have a rather easier looking run-in than we have, I think they will secure 5th place. That will leave Charlton, Peterborough and Portsmouth to slug it out for 6th place I suspect. In theory Scunthorpe are still in the mix, but they have not won in 10 games now. I think they will continue to fall away. Bristol Rovers and Bradford City almost out of the running now. Unless they win their next games I'll drop them off the list. Bearing in mind their next games are against Blackburn Rovers and Shrewsbury Town respectively, I think it's game-over for their play-off hopes.
We need to be almost faultless on our run in now, including probably needing to get something at Shrewsbury. The game away to Portsmouth is almost a Play Off decider in itself, for which of us finishes 6th. I wouldn’t want us to have to go to Rochdale on the last day with them needing a win to stay up, and us a win to get in the Play Offs. This is Charlton, after all.
www.worldfootball.net/table_calculator/eng-league-one/ I had us going into the last weekend 2 points above Portsmouth with a +4 better goal difference.... I have us winning 1-2 ..... I had Rochdale pretty much safe by then and a large away following. I also had us losing at Shrews 2-1 and drawing at Pompey 1-1 just like the Plymouth/Pompey game the week before. Along the top of the predictor you fill in predictions for any weeks that are NOT greyed out,, be careful something like week 17 needs filling in!
They're all cup finals now. Robinson kept us in contention by virtue of other clubs' poor results, Now the same players who achieved mediocre results against mediocre teams have to beat the best under Bowyer. It would be a fantastic achievement. Too much to reasonably expect, but since when was football reasonable?
Footballing-wise, it would be very depressing to have to spend yet another season in this league. As you say, all down to Robinson & his mediocrity.
I see us getting 12 points (unbeaten) from the remaining 6 games. I think we will win both home games - the crowd will get behind the team now Bowyer has taken over. I hope even genuine boycotters & all round good people come back for those last two home games, it could be the difference between playing Accrington Stanley in a league game or not next season.
Bowyer has spoken after each game of how much the fans have helped the team, and it sounds authentic. Robinson would sometimes praise the fans, which didn't sound authentic, since he heaped praise on the likes of Roland, Meire, Dodoo, Zyro (who he refused to play) amid the general outpouring of BS.
I had us doing the following - AFC Wimbledon ... win 1-3 Scunthorpe United ..... win 2-1 Shrewsbury Town ..... loss 1-0 Portsmouth ..... draw 2-2 Blackburn Rovers ..... draw 1-1 Rochdale ..... win 1-2 Total 11 points
I really can't see us getting into the Play offs. Looking at the games ahead I can see us winning two and drawing two and losing the rest. Tuesday's game is not easy against AFC Wimbledon and I think we will lose. I am still really pissed off that Duchatelet is still here. Some of the feel good factor, for some people, has returned by us doing well under Lee Bowyer. But I won't be happy, or return, till Duchatelet ****s off.
I can fully understand that view, but I also think that even with new owners yet another season in this sh1te League is a horrible prospect. We need to help push them over the line IMO.
That’s the “hair shirt” approach. I don’t want us to be martyrs in League One again next season. It is embarrassing to play in this league.
I agree that another season in this League is not what we want even under a new owner. But if this owner wants and does the best for Charlton I will support them. I feel that Murray and Duchatelet are playing Charlton Supporters. We are being lied to. False information is being leaked into the public domain. Just look at the Season ticket fiasco. They are going on sale on Thursday if a Takeover hasn't happened by then. I don't trust this regime and will not believe that Duchatelet is going until it is formally announced that the Takeover is complete. He will not get another penny from me.
If we don't feck it up, the last weekend will be very very close between us and Pompey for 6th place with them at home and us at Rochdale, let's hope Rochdale are safe by then.
Judas Murray is certainly playing the fans, and had done for 12 years. Phase 1 - the “Forrest Gump” Murray “Aw shucks sorry everyone I’m a fan like you I screwed up again” routine. Phase 2 - the “Marie Antoinette” Murray “Stop complaining that my decisions cost you your shares money...I’ve lost far more” Phase 3 - the “Iraqi Foreigh Minister” Murray “Slater & Jiminez and then Duchatelet & Meire are brilliant custodians of Charlton. PS - can I stay on the Board, please?” The guy is a 24 carat w*nker !
