Man up, i did carslile away on a tuesday night year we were relegated from the prem. Horrible place, but for whatever reason its won of the away days I want to do next year. Reason can't be that I got chair thrown at me in a fight, between about 15 v 15 fans, but hey ho.
Oh my goodness, Pompey will not survive: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17679909 Looking at that article it's probably best if PFC does go out of business, to restart in non-league.
I loved league 1 because of the opportunity it gave us to steady our ship and build a winning mentality. Going away was great craic and there were some cracking games played (albeit because of shoddy defenders/stupid mistakes!). The bad point is that it's not as easy as you'd think. You go on a winning run and then travel away to Tranmere on a Tuesday night and get well beaten, it's all up and down!
L1 was a great platform to start building again. Saying that, if Pompey don't sort out ownership issues, it will be a very difficult & possibly unpleasant venture. I look forward to hearing about it!
If Huddersfield don't go up, find their message forum. They love a friendly thread.....or two. The old 606 was a brilliant place for that. And, if MK Dons don't go up, make sure you go purely for the comfy seats. Ahhhh. *I will advise it has the worst atmosphere of any single stadium I have been to in my life. Dreadful. They don't really have any songs, just a fat bloke banging a drum chanting 'MKArmy' for about two minutes.
Get your way to a JPT final! Dont care if it aint a big cup, great few months being in the competition, some great moments! Personally when your in a cup or league you wanna win it you dont care how prestigious it is when your in it. I went crazy when we beat Norwich in the JPT, i didnt give a flying F*** that it was the JPT haha
My lad and i really enjoyed the two seasons in 3rd div - especially the away trips. i echo many of the experiences of the people on this thread but especially enjoyed away trips to Carlisle, Notts County, Huddersfield, etc. When we lost 3-2 at Carlisle, when Harding scored a spectacular OG, we stayed overnight and had a great night in the pubs with the Carlise supporters - we couldnt buy a drink ! Thats what i call call football support. At Notts County we parked on the road right outside the ground with no yellow lines - amazing ! In Swindon we were in a pub drinking with their fans before & after the game, and even in Leeds in the snow we had a good beer or 3 with their guys before walking to Elland Road togther. I cant see this happening too much if we go up to the Prem - but we will give it a go anyway ! Main downsides for me was even more hopeless officials and smaller away crowds at SMS. Enjoy it mate, and i hope that Pompey gets sorted out and comes back to play us again at SMS with an atmosphere like last Sat - both us & the skates should be proud of that passion and drama, as many others will never experience that sort of match day.
In the words of Terry Jacks (almost!) This is how we felt last year on promotion from League one: Goodbye to you, my trusted friend. We've known each other since 2009 or ten. Together we climbed the league without transfer fees. Learned of football love and ABC's, skinned your defence without Tanadari Lees. Goodbye my friend, it's hard to lie, when we entered this league I thought I would die, Now that the spring is in the air. Promotion parties are everywhere. When you see them I'll be there. We had joy, we had fun, we had two seasons in league one. But the league that we climbed were just 2 seasons out of time. Goodbye, Papa (waigo?!), please pray for me, You were the black sheep of the family. We tried to teach you offside from wrong. Too much running and it went pete tong, wonder how we got along. Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to lie when all the balls were kicked in the sky, Now that the spring is in the air. Little saints fans everywhere. When you see them I'll be there. We had joy, we had fun, we had two seasons in league one. But the wine and the pompey song, like the two seasons, all have gone. Good luck next year...it was good! Sorry if I'm showing my age with the song!!!!!
League One? Pompey? Get ready for a trip to Basingstoke boys....oh yes, it's your Blue Square South nightmare.
I really enjoyed league 1, although thats because in my head i knew our stay there was temporary. Can only echo what other posters have said about epic away games. We tended to make full on days out of them and got cheap b&b's in the area. Plymouth, exeter and notts county being some of my personal highlights.
It don't look too good for them. They're still leaking money despite Appleton's best efforts to shift high earners. No idea which loony drew up some of the contracts knowing the club was along way from having a clean bill of financial health. If only they had learnt from their mistakes the first time around.
