Good result for us and Peterborough’s relative slump continues. Blackpool look a promotion dark horse though, can definitely see them sneaking into the top 6. We’ve still got to play them twice, two very tough games they will be.
Seriously, they won't. Looking at the league table all of the teams from Accrington up to Doncaster are scrapping for the last two play-off positions and there'll be points dropped and gained by all of those teams between now and the end of the season, all of whom will be under pressure because of it. We have the deepest squad, we have the confidence of knowing we can grind results out and we have the (relative) benefit of knowing that it's in our own hands. Forget the "but this is Sunderland" stuff. We have a new owner, new manager, new set up, new outlook, and none of the baggage of Moyes, Parkinson, Coleman etc. If we don't go up now, then we only have ourselves to blame, not plucky Blackpool or spawny Lincoln........
Yep 11 games to go, we drew last time out and matched Lincoln's pace, the previous 2 games we played poorly and won, the game before that v Portsmouth we were on top form. We, by dint of a string of good results have now ended up with our fate in our own hands.... 11 games to go..all focus will be on the next game...we need not look to see what other teams results are as long as we take care of business!!! Over to you LJ. Last time out Lincoln nullified us somewhat by limiting our wingers crosses to Wyke. Kind of ironic then that it was a Power cross to Macfazdean that got us our goal. Notwithstanding that we now will need a plan 'b' if other teams follow Lincoln. Although credit the the imps RB he had a good game. I am sure the squad is nervous... nothing wrong with that..as long as they switch into the 'zone' when they cross the white line... relish the challenge and enjoy the game...then they will produce their best football and very probably win. This is what good professional players yearn for, competitive games with a target within reach.
Good summary mate. I'm full of admiration for the players, especially the ones who made a poor start and were under pressure. Also Sanderson who's putting in some hefty challenges for a loan player, after Jones you could excuse him avoiding injury. There are also players destroying the theory that confirmed L1 players won't want promotion because they'll have to leave. I'm sure Johnson has them all aware that playing to their max benefits them all. Sanderson might get a better contract at Wolves or sign for us, Power may be kept on when, at one time, he looked hopeless, McGeady might get an extension, etc. Sadly, the likes of Wyke, O'Nien, Jones may be poached off us but there's one true fact ... ... we can buy replacements but you can't buy promotion. That's the main concern, what happens next can be sorted out later.
Despite what the Wums might think I don't believe we've had any local media comments like *these since the new regime arrived. After the weekend Ferguson threw down the gauntlet to his players ... ... they looked at it, thought 'someone's lost a glove' and carried on playing shyte again. Since the start of the new regime I've been seeing posts about how we should be worried about, Ipswich Peterborough Lincoln Hull Doncaster Blackpool Fleetwood Etc etc etc One by one they all turn to shyte and we keep catching up with them like Frankenstien's monster ... ... they keep running around but when they look behind we're still there and, in their hearts, they know we'll catch them. You can see, and smell, the fear * Posh players let themselves and the club down at Blackpool For a side with a great chance of automatic promotion from League One, Posh delivered a limp display at Blackpool tonight https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk...selves-and-the-club-down-at-blackpool-3176236
Be nice if we turned in 11 Pompey performances and romped 33 points from last 11. Nobody could live with us in this league at that level, it was poetry in motion, we took the piss out of them. It is though, and it’s fact, the points when you haven’t been sharp that get you up. We have become masters of always getting something. Smashing.
Yes, this 'form' and 'momentum' or 'being up for it' from the P of the peep of the whistle is very elusive to manage and engender. It can just be a good pass/shot/tackle you made yourself or by a team-mate and then it all clicks into gear... or not. Bristol are in poor form, if we are at them from the off and do not give them a chance/encouragement to pick their game up... we should have a good opportunity to win.
I said during the game I was sat nodding to myself like Mr Moyagi when Danny sets up the crane kick at the end. Was exceptional.
So you had Peterborough to win comfortably against Blackpool and they lost. Yet no one should be worried about Blackpool?
He's an absolute knacker mate. He'll absolute slate a player then a fortnight later accuse other people of slating the same player and say how great he is ... ... I imagine people who work in retirement homes are nodding at that scenario.
Well, yeah? They're near the top of the form table and just hammered one of the best teams in the league. I swear some Sunderland fans operate under the illusion we have some God-given right to automatically beat anyone outside the Prem Big 6. No doubt that historically we're a far bigger club than Blackpool, and really shouldn't be in this league. But the fact is we are, and have been stuck here for three years now. I don't get why people expect us to sweep aside teams who are at a similar level to us right now just because they aren't called Manchester United or Liverpool.
Even under pp, we had a good defensive record. We just couldn't score. I would never have parky back, but, credit where its due, we could have a lot worse off than we were when he left.
Blackpool beat us and a fair few other teams in the PL ... ... this clown was saying Peterborough would beat them easily yesterday. I don't often say this but it's time he was stopped from posting his ludicrous shyte.
