Johnson has played LB before and everyone liked him there, he was also going to play against quick players and has pace, Lovren hasn't got pace so please tell me who you would of liked there because he wasn't going to change his whole system because of one injury. We need goals simple, having pace on wings don't score you goals. He brought two strikers on and hoped a chance could be created, we had one half chance with Balotelli and then hit and hopes. He managed the game correctly and I have no complaints.
It's crazy sometimes, everyone gave it their all tonight, including our manager who no doubt wanted it more than anyone. We were so close and still have s lot to play for this season - get behind them ffs!!
I thought we played really well and I can't criticise anyone - bar Johnson! Just frustrating because we played so well and should have won.
Thing is mate, they are THE best team in the prem, they were at home, Maureen played his best players, we should have beat them at home in the first leg because on the night we were good enough. But well done Chelsea. My only gripe is that they should have played 3/4's of the game with 10 men due to Costa's FIRST stamp, retro punishment means **** all once the result stands. So no excuses then.
I thought I was quite clear; I would have brought on Lovren. Big tall CB against a big physical Chavski team - they did score from a set piece, if you recall. At least he would also be in his favoured position whilst instead, we were treated to Glen Johnson at LCB who was poor. Neither are great options. One is obviously a better choice than the other. One can win a header, would have been playing in his favoured position and doesn't believe he's Messi - the other is Johnson. "We need goals simple, having pace on wings don't score you goals. He brought two strikers on and hoped a chance could be created, we had one half chance with Balotelli and then hit and hopes." It doesn't, but it does stretch the team and give them problems. Take off both your pacey, line hugging wingbacks and you're left with a slow and narrow team which makes it much easier for Chelsea to defend. You can't just throw on whatever striker is on the bench and hope a goal scoring chance drops out of their arse, you still need to think about wider game tactics and what's going to work. Rather than hoping a chance could be created, he should be changing his tactics to make a chance more likely. At the very least, you certainly don't leave 3 defenders at the back and two holding midfielders when chasing a game in extra time and needing 1 goal whilst Lallana scratches his balls on the bench. Pace is dangerous. Rodgers, with the exception of Sterling, removed it all from our team as the game progressed.
Agreed. It does say a lot that Johnson was picked ahead of Lovren. Either way - with Sakho going off, it changed the game. Hopefully he isn't seriously injured. And agree on the wing backs. We ended up shifting Hendo out there. So not only are we reducing the pace in the team, but we take our engine out of the middle. Really bizarre tactics from Rodgers which is a shame because we were set up really well in the first half.
I suspect Chelsea's tactics were "play in second gear four an hour and let Liverpool tire themselves out before stepping into first gear". Only player I'll moan about is Glen Johnson as he was supposed to be playing LCB but was playing more like a LWB leaving us exposed. Not really his fault either, Brod shouldn't be playing him at all, never mind in that role.
Saw this tweet which sums up the second half: @stighefootball: #LFC finished with Johnson at LCB, Can at RB, Lambert and Balotelli on the wing, no LB at all and Gerrard straddling a half-back role We have a big lump in Lambert who is good in the air - but he's the one taking the crosses lol
For me sorry but effort and all that is my expectation. Grand we all did our best.... Reality is we are out Once the draw was made most would say liverpool were not going to do chelsea over two legs, only lfc fans would give lfC a chance The first leg was one chance one goal, just control it from chelsea and lfC missed several sitters and many half chances once it was 1:1 I said it wasn't enough and knew we had missed our chance so have been goofing around since Tonight is have taken a "respectable" result and frankly 0-0 was that in 90 mins. We missed all our chances hence we don't deserve a thing No arguement about refs, negativity, bad subs or players makes a blind bit of difference when the very best players we have all miss sitters Chelsea will walk the final probably... Best of luck to them
Former Leicester and Norwich midfielder Darren Eadie on Twitter: "I love how much of an irritant Costa is. Every quality team needs one. We had Robbie Savage at Leicester - an absolute pest on the pitch." I love that Costa is an "irritant" or "pest"...imagine if Suarez had avoided two reds for two stamps in a game! This board would be in lockdown
That's what I always say about our strikers, Lambert, Borini, Balotelli. None of them know what it looks like inside the area because they spend all their time far too deep or lazing out wide. I know you get better protection from the elements out there with the stands but come on. Why Rodgers won't stick with what has worked best for us is the ultimate mystery. This is our best side (maybe bench Lallana to swap him out for an out and out striker, Borini probably) -------------Mignolet --------Can Skrtel Sakho -Markovic--------------Moreno --------Henderson Lucas -----Lallana-------Coutinho --------------Sterling
Even #bbcsalford could only manage "naughty" at a stretch They're all just bandwagon-jumping hypocritical twats
Yeah. It's done and dusted now. Concentrate on the FA Cup, get to the final of that and hopefully win it, push for top 4, hopefully get that and we can call it a decent season out of sewage beginnings.
Yeah but he's there ****bag like Suarez was our ****bag. Just the way it is. If we'd signed him and he was doing that to Chelsea we'd be loving it. Let's get real here.
