There's no point in employing this tactic if there are insufficient attacking players that are good in the air. Might as well stick Wright up front, if we're going to persevere with this tactic.
.....and Ross' for that matter. We need someone who can open up defences through the middle, then we're not so predictable. Problem is that if your targets are standing like a couple of milk bottles, they are easy to mark and don't create the spaces needed for the ball to be threaded through. These are 2 problems that have to be addressed, another being our inability to hit the target when we do get chances. We have enough in defence (silly mistakes aside), but our attacking options are inadequate.
Was just thinking that it may have been a good thing getting beaten in the way we did as he will learn a lot more than if we'd nicked it 1-0 with one of our many "shots"
I have a funny feeling we'd have pretty much got the same comments tbf. He was spot on about what we did well and what we did **** so can't see that changing. I do think he'll get us to be more of an attacking force and we will see more of our players getting in the opposition's box though, and that on it's own will be a huge relief.
Grant is not the immediate problem, you can build a ream around a slow player with good control and vision, building a team of slow players around him, Maguire, Power, Grigg, Wyke and Graham are the problem. Pirlo would struggle with this lot, even at this level, so don't shoot the messenger .
i think our midfielders in general are a problem, the ball is very much a 'hot potato' when they get it and they cant wait to be rid of it...if you are going to rely on crosses then you get the ball in quick before every man is behind the ball...
I think the ones which are posting and agreeing this are on a wind up and have been for some time tbh!
you may be right marra...but i do know some have never liked grant in the team even when he came through the ranks and while i agree he was not 'at his best' last season, i feel he has been much better this one. ..but i guess the OP is correct, he IS part of the problem as are the rest of them
