I thought I would dread getting old but I love it...I can be rude as **** and just blame it on a mid life crisis ... me and mrs remember have been together for 19 years this week...we have never done anniversaries as we ain't married but when I told her the other day her response was "christ, I'd have done less time for murder" ... she's enjoying getting old and grumpy as much as I am
Wow! We've had quite a few names! Anyone care to compile a Lazy Bastard first XI, and let's see if we can reach a consensus?
Le Tissier is hands down the laziest midfielder ever. You'll have to take my word, since it's difficult for other fans to grasp the sheer depths of his lethargy.
You are just a toddler Spurcat, I have an 11 year start on you! I think Big Smithy is a couple of years younger than me. COYS
"I guess BigSmithy is probably the oldeśt regular on here. MaggieBlanchflower maybe is older, not sure. I'm 62 this month, so doubt if there's too many who are older than me who post regularly." Oi! What about us 77-year-olds then???!!!
75 in November.Oh ****!!!!!! I still hate frigging Arsenal.......and I don't care for Chelsea either!
Tommy Harmer always played like a,seemingly, lazy you know what.Hardly broke into a trot during a game but his passing and dribbling was unique.I can see him now dribbling through the Arsenal defence and putting the ball in the net.Probably wanted a *** after that effort!!!!!!
3 heartattacks too! One in 2000 and two in 2004. I blame our forward line!!!!!? Who was your first Spurs hero,Maggie? Mine was George Robb.Gentleman George.Until he retired through injury. Then one Saturday I went to The Lane.Spurs hard signed a new left half.A Scotsman apparently....amd I was lost again. It was Dave Mackay.Fantastic player.Never seen another like him.Never will. I have the photo of him saying good morning to Billy Bremner on my basement wall. (I also have a photo of Cassius Clay unconscious on the ropes after being knocked out by 'Our 'Enery. Of course,Clay's career was saved by the bell and his trainer cutting his glove so it gave him time to recover and he stayed away from 'Enery's 'ammer and proceeded to open our man's eyebrows. Oh! the memories......) Lining up with the other kids at the Co-op top of Lansdowne Road to get Stanley Matthews autograph. He was advertising his boots that were on sale.I bought Tom Finney's....and they bloody hurt me when the nails came through!!!!! I still have my autograph book of Spurs signatures of 1953.The Duke,Ted,Alf,Eddie,Harry............... Ernie, the maintenance man who kept us kids at bay on training days. (The stinker!)
Ted Ditchburn was the player I was very fond of, so much so I still have a postcard size photo of him from the 50's to this day. I too liked George Robb & Len Duquemin. I don't think I had a specific hero, I just loved the whole team, the atmosphere & excitement of 'going down the SPURS', and how I loved the band! I was only 8 in 1950 so my appreciation of individual skills, talents & tactics probably went over my head, hence my fondness for Ted perhaps as his skill was more obvious! Even in our wonderful double season I just loved the whole team. Maybe Cliff Jones edges it or Danny B or Smithy or Dave.......see what I mean, I loved 'em all. I remember that fight with Cassius Clay & 'Enery. What a travesty of justice! I didn't mind watching boxing in Cooper & Clays time but hate it now. Do you still have old ticket stubs? I have them from the European Cup nights & cup finals. I still have failed ballot cards for cup finals Tickets were attractive back then, worth keeping, not like the computerised things now. Look after yourself Bigsmithy, 3 heart attacks is enough for anyone. Take care. COYS
Yes,Maggie.I to still have MY failed ballot cards and and ticket stubs.Sad really.Spurs were my life and I was always arguing their merits for years. My biggest Spurs shock came when Pat went over to the enemy.I felt like I had lost a brother, but it wasn't his fault.Spurs thought his successor would be better in time and would last longer. Some hopes. ....and the number of times I saw Bill on a station after a match and I was too laid back to speak to him. I still have my Spurs programmes from long ago and a Spurs handbook from 1912 ( and others) and a 1902 tiny yearbook. Many scrapbooks and autobiographies going back beyond the 50's (Hapgood,Swift.) Good luck to you too!!!!!!! and may the term "The Spurs Way" be handed down from generation to generation!
Glad I'm not the only one to keep failed tickets!!! I just never threw away anything connected to Spurs! I did however give away my huge collection of programmes, many pre war and most of my handbooks to a Spurs loving friend just before I moved. I still have many special programmes, Cup Finals etc, the 1982 one signed by the whole team, subs and Chas & Dave! (I was lucky enough to be at the reception after the parade down the High Road). That was very special & I gave Ricky Villa a kiss (on the cheek) for THAT goal! He was lovely, so happy & friendly. Ossie on the other hand was very reserved. Yes, I too was shocked to the core when Pat left especially as he always said the day he left Spurs was the day he'd hang up his boots. That was the one big mistake Keith Burkinshaw made but you had to forgive him as he took us to 2 cup wins and a UEFA. That was a great night too, Steve Archibalds last game, "we'll take more care of you, Archibald, A r c h I b a l d". Loved that one! Were you a member of the supporters club when we used to meet in the Enterprise club before acquiring Warmington House? I still have a balance sheet from the 1961 AGM, our assets were £1831.5.9. I would never part with my scrap books, there is so much in them apart from all the match reports, every piece of trivia concerning Spurs even British Rail stickers from the train carriage saying SPURS SUPPORTERS ONLY. Just think, we had our own private carriages! Another BR one advertising a Spurs special to Sunderland for an FA cup match for 18/6 return! Can you imagine, all that way for under a £1...I was on that train, we drew there and whopped 'em at the Lane. I could go for hours, between us Smithy we could write a book!!!
I would have kissed Ricky too,but he would have smacked me!!!!!? I became a life member of Spurs Supporters Club in (?) 1958. Used to live near the old Spurs pub on Great Cambridge Road.Wonder what happened to the pub sign?A cockrell wearing Spurs gear.....shirt,shorts,boots,etc..........and the cockrell that Spurs fan used to carry as walked around the pitch perimeter. They'd cart him off in todays world! My first away tripout of town was a cup tie at Doncaster in 1956.I was 15....and on my todd! Couldn't understand why the Rovers fans gave Spurs players a hard time.I realized later that we do the same at The Lane to the visitors. By the way.I don't think todays supporters club recognize that life membership!!!!!!? Best goal?Had to be Gazza against the towel heads!...and Greavesey v Man United after walking around the whole United team.Messi?Who's he?
