I do think Spurs have had it rough with the press. To go from good old 'Arry, every journo's best pal to AVB, who is quite the opposite was always going to cause some kind of fallout. I think he'll be good for you lot but it'll take time, probably this season in it's entirety. Whereas Spurs garner (some) genuine opinions from both ends of the spectrum, clubs like Fulham only warrant blunt acknowledgement. Lawro and many others just don't know anything about a club who've been in the PL over a decade, it's poor. EDIT: I'll add I don't mind being under the radar, but it does irk me sometimes when we don't get credit where it's due. It was comical at times! I rate Hansen and Dixon and I think Lineker is a good host, but bloody Shearer can do one! You could get somebody's dead nan in and she would have more personality than him. "See, what he's done there, like, is head the ball in the net".
True. I thought you guys were getting your due by the end of last term but selling 2 of your better players to us seems to have put you back to a midtable at best side in the media's eyes. With regards to AVB, you're right it will take sometime. There will be some false dawns and some times when we look crap but as I think I said to you guys last year, it takes about 3 transfer windows for a manager to really get the kind of squad he wants. For AVB it's perhaps not the case as he's probably only a player or two off already but that's as a result of major upheaval which will take awhile to settle down. As for Dixon, he shouldn't be allowed to talk on Tottenham, that's for sure. The only person in the World that thought Balotelli stamping on Parker's head wasn't a red card! Personally I don't think it really works as MOTD do it, the pundits don't have time to watch all the games, let alone analyse them properly but Shearer in particular never has anything interesting to say.
The pub I always like to go to before the game is the Bricklayers Arms in Putney. There is a beer festival this weekend so will definately be there. There is always a mixed crowd of fans but at last game we were taken over by good natured WBA fans. Man City fans would be very welcome tomorrow and as an added bonus we have a local Morris side entertaining us !
This week's bollocks from Lawro; In summary; Soton have leaked an average of three goals a game this season, Fulham won their last away game, Soton lost against Everton, Soton need to work on their defending, Soton will win. Brilliant reasoning, Lawro. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we will lose, but please, pretty please, with a ****ing cherry on top, back yourself up. Sigh.
The fact that that Lawroâs score after week six is actually LESS than his varied guests says it all! However. it's not so much the score prediction that winds us up but that the illogical rationale â best described in the title of this thread. Dave Brailsford, this weekâs guest, has a 0-1 away win to Fulham â Fine man! My best guess would be a 2-2 for our first draw of the season (that we have not had a draw so far is another indicator of Fulham progressing under MJ). But forever hopeful that we nick it 1-2. Pity I canât go (Anyone need a ticket?) C O Y W
Do one Lawro. So Soton concede average 3 a game and we are the second highest scoring team in the league and yet we will still lose 2-0 and not score. Hahaha nice one Lawro.
Did anyone see the table last season according to Lawro's predictions? Was absolutely hilarious. I think he had Liverpool either first or second having lost only ONE game! Whenever Liverpool are away to a tricky team he always backs the 1-1. Always.
I never did see that table, I was thinking the addition of a table this season would make for very interesting reading this season!
It has. Despite West Brom starting like a train his predictions have them 11 places lower (prior to todays games) than reality shows them to be. Likewise he has QPR 11 places higher. You would think after 3 or 4 games he might start to look at reality and change his predictions to reflect that. Apparently not.
In Praise of Stoke I was more than a tad irritated with "Lawro's bollocks" about Stoke on last night's MOTD. However, I could never have expressed it as well as the author of this beautifully crafted blog - http://onpunditwatch.wordpress.com/2012/10/08/stoke-city-why-such-outright-praise/
He should have to do something if he loses against his guest every week, like a forfeit or charitable donation. Because he really should be beating these guests, you know, with all the football knowledge he has. Oh, and the guest should either choose the charity or choose the forfeit. I'd like to see Lawro finally give in and confess his love for Hansen on-air.
Latest edition of Lawro's Bollocks has Reading down for an all important 2-1 home win. I'll sum up for you Reading 'must' win this game, despite being less than 10 games into the season They don't have the players to win games Fulham are poor away from home, despite winning 4 out of the last 11, one of which was at Anfield against his beloved Berbatov doesn't travel well, so him being our only good player, we will inevitably lose, despite the fact we picked up four points from our last two away games without him I'm beginning to really loathe Lawro to be honest. If he has us down for an away win this season I will buy a hat and eat it. Reading are absolutely awful and have yet to win this season after a series of disappointing draws and defeats. Stoke and Newcastle both got draws against them at home so I see absolutely no reason why we can't. A 1-1 draw would be a more sensible prediction, but I'm going for an away win.
I outright loathe Lawro. I try to avoid the media outright when it come to sport but when I do hear Lawro's predictions I become frustrated.
Fulham will not just roll over and they deserve to be in the top half of the table for their performances at Craven Cottage this season. But their only away win came at Wigan and their best player Dimitar Berbatov does not always travel well either, which is why I am backing Reading to get their first three points of the season. It might be quite a nervy victory though. Prediction: 2-1 Complete tosh. Lawro is the definitive contradiction in terms! Michael Vaughan has us down for a 1-3 win! Well done Vaughney.
