Lawro only gets 48% of his Fulham matches correct Here is a link to an analysis of how he's done overall and team by team (incredibly he only gets Liverpool correct 43% of the time) - http://blog.257sports.com/mark-lawrensons-pundit-performance-record/ By comparison the Cluckers get 56% of our games correct Here is a link to the comparable analysis of their predictions (unfortunately it was George Co-Hen who predicted this week's Man City game!) - http://blog.257sports.com/fulham-chickens-pundit-performance-record/
Colin Murray has been sacked from MOTD and this article suggests that there are more to follow - please, please me and let it be .. a certain Liverpudlian http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2266357/Match-Day-debate--needs-change-close-gap-Sky-Sports.html
Lawrenson is from Preston. Why I've remembered that all these years I don't know, but there you are. Am I the only one who liked Colin Murray, by the way? I'm sorry to hear that he's been axed. Assuming that they won't get Lee Dixon back from the BBC, I'd like to see Pat Nevin become the regular pundit to accompany whoever replaces Murray.
Yeah, I'm sorry to hear CM has been axed when it should've been any or all of Shearer, Hansen and Lawro. Pat Nevin gets another vote for me, and the other fella from Five Live, Mark Pougatch? He's good. But knowing our luck we'll have ****ing Robbie Savage and Stan Collymore.
His replacement has already been appointed. It's the AWFUL Mark Chapman from Final Score. Not Murray's biggest fan but apparently got the boot after irritating some of senior pros on the show. He goes up in my book for that. Probably told Shearer he was as dull as dishwater.
Good article in The Guardian about the aforementioned. I picked out this little tidbit: And something a bit more poignant: ****ing bravo.
Colin Murray's little spat with Pat Nevin on Sundays MOTD2 may have been the final straw - Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/news/9819788/Colin-Murray-is-not-just-irritating-and-irrelevant-he-is-a-very-bad-presenter.html
I doubt if Nevin was bothered by that. He's a regular on Murray's Radio 5 Live show and gives as good as he gets in banter with Murray and Perry Groves. Some of the others may have been irked that a 'civilian' would talk like that to a hallowed ex-pro, but I'd be very surprised if Nevin took it that way.
To be honest, Match of the Day is the BBC at it's big institution, over-paying, over-defensive best/worst. It would not take a genius to see that Hansen is not worth the money anymore, but the BBC like to stick their head in the stand and pretend his big salary is justified, that they couldn't possibly compete if they lost him. However, the truth is that most people ignore the "analysis" on MotD as it is so poor. Put Hansen on sabbatical, give Shearer the sack & restrict Lawro to commentary. If the BBC were market driven rather than license fee dependent, I think they would be more proactive in changing things up. If it were me I would extend MotD to 2 hours, start it 30 minutes earlier at 10pm (football fans, if watching MotD, are likely to stay and watch the extra time), get in some young and knowledgeable pundits who the fans actually remember playing (Dixon would be a good start) and give some actual analysis for 5-10 minutes after each game. The highlights often don't tell the story and the studio team should be there to fill in the gaps - something they currently don't do.
Agree with all that Surly, especially that - all they do at the moment is describe what happens on the screen. I think I may hate Shearer more in an MOTD context, the man has nothing to offer a television program. His complete lack of analytical ability would be fine if he had a personality, but he's the human embodiment of magnolia.
The 'Bollock' has it as a straightforward 2-0 win for United. However, he does seem to have got his assumption mixed up with his elbow in the highlighted bit. I won't even comment on his attempt at humour.
Brilliant, nice little column about Berbatov, and no comment on the football match. Shouldn't this article just be called "Lawro Reckons" with a side order of random predictions?
But Berbatov FC got the majority of the article! Were Manure even mentioned! Must be Lawro's Liverpool bias seeping through.
I can't find much to disagree with for his latest instalment: He's gone for a 1-1 which I agree with unless there is a surprise in our lineup... coyw
For first time I will have to agree... As Ronnie states unless there is a surprise in the line-up or something different 1-1 seems the most likely score. Although given that is West Spam even loose it...
As do the Cluckers
