Totally agree about Lineker as well. Nothing particularly against him like you say, but for what he's paid you'd expect someone with at least a smidgen of personality who doesn't have to read every single word - including the terrible, terrible 'jokes' - off the bloody autocue. It's embarrassing, it really is And to think people used to hate Jimmy Hill!
The BBC believe their audience are neither intelligent enough, interested enough or able to pay attention for long enough to be treated to serious analysis. Just as they believe that the people listening to a match commentary can't take in more than the odd ten seconds worth of actual description of the game before needing to be fed some titbit of irrelevant information about this or that player and then treated to the thoughts of an often mind-blowingly boring "expert summariser". The arrogance and patronising attitude rife throughout the organisation is a national disgrace. For all their emphasis on "listening" and feedback, have you EVER known them actually admit to having got something wrong? The normal BBC response is simply to put up some pompous, self-righteous spokesman who patronisingly "explains" to the idiot listeners/viewers just how great the BBC is and the reasons why they were right to do what they did. The sooner the BBC licence fee becomes optional the better as far as I am concerned.
i've got no issue with lineker - he's harmless, amiable enough. i don't even mind hansen because at least he will explain why teams are defending in a shoddy manner! its shearer and lawrenson i have a problem with because ALL they ever offer is a few clichéd words - no appraisals, no analysis - just biased drivel. i don't even care of people are biased - the lads on soccer saturday are the most biased panelists imaginable, but they all have personalities and are able to discuss, with passion and knowledge, matters regarding all the clubs. bbc are miles behind sky in that respect and the only pundit they had who was capable of doing that has moved to itv!!
I take it you missed MOTD last Saturday then Superman, when Lineker highlighted the fact that Shearer had analysed Liverpool's midfield play and then invited him to share his insights with us. This insightful analysis turned out to be a comparison between Allen passing the ball sideways and backwards, with Gerrard spearing it forward. To which a wisely nodding Hansen added that when he was playing they were always told to "look forward". The air of solemn gravitas with which this entire travesty was conducted was simply ludicrous.
yeah, i did see it robbie. it received much contempt, quite rightly, on twitter from all corners of the footballing community.
Is it possible to start a petition across all corners of this forum to rid the BBC of ****e football punditry? We can control the BBC!!
No matter how you try to dress it up your real problem with Lawro is that he doesn't tell you what you want to hear, namely a Norwich win every week. If he had predicted a win for you in Newcastle this thread would never have been born. His 'predictions' are going to upset one or possibly both teams every time he puts down his projected score. If he had said you were going to win your first four games (he possibly did) he would have been wrong each time. Very few teams are going to visit St James Park and come back with 3pts. Yes, his patter on MOTD is jaded and colourless, but perhaps that is the criterion for the job; judging by his fellow pundits, that is more than likely the case. That's hardly his fault. I am no fan of his but some of the criticism coming his way is unfair and childish.
I'd like to respectfully point out you don't know what you're talking about! Our hatred of Lawro goes bact to our dark days in league one, and have gradually declined ever since! If you knew what you are talking about, then you would know that we complain far more when he predicts a win for us, it goes way beyond your comprehension!
His predictions are not the problem, it is his lack of knowledge on which they are based, and that he adds absolutely nothing to any football match. IN fact he detracts from every match he comments on.
Our main problem with him, is that he's a total ****. He's not welcome in the city of Norwich or the county of Norfolk.
Not that at all GC. It's that his predictions involving us, and his other comments regarding NCFC, are based on complete ignorance about us. As has been pointed out, his latest words of wisdom about Lambert and Hughton are a case in point. He clearly hasn't a clue about how Lambert operates. All through last season he insisted that we would be relegated because we leaked goals. We leaked goals, but weren't relegated. Similarly, he insisted that a side of Premier League unknowns couldn't survive. We did! You would think that he would realise that things weren't going as he predicted, and that he'd try to work out why. But no. All we got was pained mystification and eventual grudging acceptance that actually we were not going to go down.
He's welcome to try and get in But he WILL be treated as a burglar ...and you know how that chant goes
