Against Stoke I think Metersacker was the man, against Liverpool I think Kos. Not a question of who is better, just horses for courses.

Left some room in case he needs more time to get match fit. ;)

Surely that would still prove me to be correct? If the changes are due to injuries then fair enough.

But Im still predicting with a fully sit squad...

    Sagna--Mertesacker--Vermalen(c)--Gibbs

Is our first choice back four.

What would still prove you correct?

Basically any run of games where Kos consecutively starts ahead of Mert (when both are fit) would prove that he's not the first choice, and your prediction would be wrong.

No. 'injuries permitting' being key to my previous statement.

Koscielney is now fit and Mertesacker will still be picked thus proving he's the preferred partner for Vermaelen.

Bould has obviously had an influence on the way we are now setting up the team. No goals conceded in our first two games is already a big improvement on last season.

    Just need to start scoring.

Mertesacker has improved heavily and one thing you don't do is intefere with a good CB relationship and you certainly don't do that against tricky teams like Liverpool. I'd rather play Koscielny after we finish playing Liverpool, Southampton, Man City and Chelsea and bring him back for Westham. <ok>

Over a very large sample of posts I've read from you, you really have major reading comprehension problems...

If all players are fit, and Kos is picked ahead of Mertesacker in 2 games consecutively, even that sample would be logically enough to invalidate your prediction that Mert would be preferred to him "for the rest of the season". <doh>

Only reason I said 3 weeks is because Kos might not be match fit for this week.

Can't believe I had to be so verbose about this. <doh>

If you think Bould's influence has made Mertesacker a better player, what's to say that it won't make Koscielny a better player?

Jesus Christ, can any one imagine Koscielny actually being better? Potential to be the finest football player of all time.

Bould played with Adams. Maybe the booze played a part but pace was certainly not one of Adams' attributes. Bould must just be sharing the secrets of how Tony coped.

Kos and Merts both have their own skills and as someone said it maybe horses for courses. I'd prefer stability. I also prefer kos. It was probably coincidence and this probably isn't fair to the guy but I'm going to say it anyway.... Our season picked up right around the time Merts got injured...

Koscielny has got to be starter, but Merts has proven to be good against teams with a big forward and isn't such a bad option if one of our two main CBs get injured.

I dont see what you're finding so difficult about this? Rather than arguing the semantics of the last few posts with you I will just simplify.

If all our defenders remain fit - I am predicting we will be sticking with Mertesacker and Vermaelen.

Now I'm not saying Koscieleny wont get games and that there wont be any squad rotation (or injuries) but I do think it is Wenger and Boulds first choice partnership.

And I fully understood that... and I said it would logically take only 2 consecutive games for Koscielny to start ahead of Mert (when both are fit) to invalidate the prediction in the form it was phrased.

    How about this:
Arsenal finally have 3 good CBs. CBs so good, we can't decide who should play.
    Yay Arsenal!!

From a LFC point of view, I would rather you played Mert, One of his main strengths is his aerial ability and there wont be many balls been pumped into the box, I also feel we are likely to get a penalty from Mert clattering Suarez if he is the one chosen. Koscielny is a classy player and I think would cope with Liverpools attack much easier than Mertesacker, so I hope you go with Per :p
Should be an open attacking game, hope to see some good football from both sides

It will be nice to play a team that isn't going to park the bus playing against us. We have had 6 shots against us that were on target, so far this season, in two games. Sunderland at least were away from home, but Stoke were a disgrace, timewasting at home for a 0-0 draw, pathetic.

I honestly think that Kos and Merts is our best partnership, simply because Kos and Verm are too similar to each other, and Kos is better defensively than Verm.
