The more you pay for players the more they expect to be paid in wages and signing on fee. Cornelius has proved he could score goals before he came to cardiff and since he has left cardiff so why did he not perform for cardiff is all down to not been given a chance to settle in. £45k/week is cheap when you compare what we pay Bony every week but bony was given time with us and now we are reaping the rewards and should we have to sell him then we will more than double our profit. Tans inexperience in football came through again by getting rid of Cornelius far to quick and ended up millions out of pocket and no proven goal scorer...

Stevo!
Cornelius missed several games at the start of the season due to injuring his ankle in training. When he finally made the bench I don't believe he had fully recovered from the said injury. Let's be fair there was a lot of weight above that ankle. The lad was a big un. Was he worth the alleged transfer fee? We'll never know but he's young enough to prove all the doubters wrong. I was not impressed with what I saw of him but then we are an impatient lot down the CCS and have a penchant for alienating certain players we perceive to be not trying.

No one person is to blame.

Ninian - these are valed opinions, however I disagree.

Mackay spent £35.0M or so - what would you expect for this investment? Champions League? Top Half? For £35.0M Mackay assembled a squad good enough to stay in the division, which for that amount of investment is a job well done. Had Mackay remained manager we would be safe by now (only an opinion I know). I agree he was a bit negative, but was starting to use Mutch & Noone after a half decent start.

Hull spent nowhere near that amount nor Palace and look where they are now? Mackay was being naïve to expect his championship squad to be good enough supplemented with one new centre back, one new holding/defensive midfielder, two untested attacking full backs (one whom he never played), one untried striker, and one experienced attacking player (who he then played out of position). The bulk of last season squad have proven to have been inadequate for this league - Gunnarrsson, Cowie, Kim, Tayor Turner, Hudson (albeit just one disastrous game).
Mackay failed to start with Noone until late November - why??

OGS - no blame really - poor guy looked out of his depth from day 1 - CANNOT be allowed to stay for next year.

He has to take blame for his wrong tactics and team selections surely as well as bringing in some Norwegian players who don't look good enough even for the championship?

Tan - where to start - sacking Moody, sacking Mackay at the wrong time - should have stayed 'till end of season, threatening players with withdrawal of bonuses, booing his own players, having total disregard for Cardiff as a city, its fan base, its history, interference in team affairs, giving away Cornelius, when we were blatently short of fire power ( I know he wasn't exactly prolific but come on - 80 minutes playing time in total & Kenwynne Jones FFS).

Tan surely had the expectation his money would have been spent appropriately and not on "punts." I reiterate Hull and Palace were below us last season - look at them now with astute management and player acquisition from experienced PL managers.

Players - as I've said before - squad at begining of season were good enough to stay up & were actually playing well enough to stay up - in my opinion they weren't interested once Malcy's position was threatened -OGS's indecision & lack of tactical know how didn't help either. Can anyone explain why Caulker & Turner looked solid under Mackay, or Taylor actually looked good enough for Premier League, or Medel looked a bargain, or KTC looked an excellent purchase?

.

He didn't fail to Start him Nin. He didn't get a single minute of PL football until the Utd game, then dropped him for 2 more despite a game changing contribution. That decision more than any summed up MM's naivety at this level for me.

You have to have an attacking threat, MM wasn't bothered about that and trusted we could defend and score from Witts set play delivery. In truth the conceding of 2 at Villa, Palace, 3 at Liverpool, Arsenal home and Saints home showed we weren't defending very well in the end either. We had one of the worst defensive records in the league despite it being what our whole approach was built on. We'd been found out and the game plan was always going to be too limited for this league over an entire season.

Mackay was being naïve to expect his championship squad to be good enough

But they were proving to be good enough. Remember we were still above Palace & a few places above relegatin spots (16th)
when Malky was sacked.

yes yes yes

Most observers form opinions about media reports on the basis of what they want to believe.

Anyone can quote a media article or an observation from a TV pundit and latch on to it as though it was actually the case if it suits their argument. One quoted on here a few days back from Nathan Blake and published by WOL regarding (in his opinion) the players underperformed because of the bonus is fairly typical.

I've no wish to argue about the merits (or demerits) of Tan at the club, but the way that most downside things that occur and are blatantly published, are then laid at his door makes me sick. He may well be the cause of all the problems at CCFC, but I don't believe for one minute that's the case - that's all too easy an option to take.

This forum is as always about opinions, but some of them are too heavily formed through wishful thinking to suit the individual's viewpoint. I prefer to keep an open mind rather than close it on the basis of speculative and sensationalistic journalism.

Read it by all means - we all do, but this anti-Tan bandwagon jumping is a bloody disgrace.

I do not blame Tan for the failings on the football pitch. He does not actually kick a ball. My main grievance with him is that he failed to take control of the managerial problem until it was far too late, and compounded it by selecting Solskjaer who even with the benefit of hindsight was never going to be able to cope.

My other albeit irrelevant to the football side is his ridiculous comment that the majority of fans are in favour of the re-brand. They are patently not but that should not detract from the inability of Mackay to acquire a decent enough squad, and then Solskjaer for failing in team selection and tactics.

The writing was on the wall before Mackay was axed that his squad was never going to be good enough. The away fixtures post his axing were never going to reap more than a handful of points, and the team was not going to be good enough to cope with experienced Premier League teams and newly promoted teams with experienced PL players coming to CCS looking to defend and hit us on the break.

At the end of the day the squad was not good enough, whichever manager was in charge.

I don't blame anyone..........infact I think they done a good job at getting my seat back for me next season>>>>> <ale>

But

OGS arrived to be greeted with away trips to Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd. I don't think anyone expected anything from those games. Losing to West Ham in the middle was a buggeration factor but we were always going to be looking upwards after the games at the 3 top clubs.

Do you really think Malky would have made any difference? The Southampton home performance was dire enough to seal his fate.

December was a pivotal month, Malky & Kerslake were found wanting.

Stoke away were there for the taking at that time we drew.
Palace away less said the better 0 points
WBA home should have had a cricket score but got a scrappy 1-0 win
Liverpool away got what we deserved 0 points
Southampton & Sunderland home should have been looking for at least 4 points we got a very lucky 1

6 games, 5 should have been winnable or 9points at the least we got ? 5.

Of course Malky should take most of the blame.

It was always going to be a big ask for a demoralised team to get any points in January.

But he did . Remember we were still above Palace & a few places above relegatin spots (16th)

Palace took 4 points from their first 10 odd games, Sunderland were equally ****e to start the season, chuck in a terrible Fulham side and the bottom 3 was taking care of itself. Being above them was hardly an achievement at that point. We were on the slide, shipping goals and not looking like scoring many/any. We may have scraped survival under MM as we're within a couple of points of it now but I still think based on our squad and total lack of any attacking threat we'd have been 17th at best under either manager. The exception is if we'd sacked MM at the same time as Moody and brought in Pullis. He has properly turned water in to wine in SE7 and deserves immense credit, he could have worked with our workman like squad. Whether Palace fans will grow bored of his 'style' remains to be seen, but they've got a couple of seasons of enjoying upsetting the odds to watch before that will become an issue.

Whiffle, so MM did not orchestrate his own sacking? If you had to pubilclly back down from an employee and the same employee continued to bad mouth you in the press would you let them do so without recrimination even though they were doing a **** job?

Cant wait for the Championship again to be honest Dai. At least we know our way around that league. If we hang on to the core of the squad we will be fine.

I would always want Cardiff to put their wits against the best but this season has been a disappointment, not only because we were found wanting but the utter crap we see from teams outside the top 7 or 8.

Everyone is able to put on a show once in a while but most days it's dire, because I've not watched MotD while we have been in the Championship I never realised the gap in the prem was so vast. Unless or until lesser teams can get into the top 6 club there is very little in there for us.

I think if/when we go down Tan will throw money at getting back up I just hope OGS has more street cred than Malky.

He wasn't that good. <wah>

You have not seen Cornelius play - neither have we .... much. But enough was enough. I did see him a few times in the development side as well as the occasional glimpse of him in the Premier League - embarrassing! Yes, he scored goals in a pub league. Now we've got rid of him he's scoring goals in a pub league again. So what? There is nobody I know who thinks Cornelius will ever be worth half of what we paid for him. If Tan was more experienced in football he would have got rid of Cornelius sooner! And who thinks the chairman of the club should be getting rid of (or signing) players anyway - isn't that interfering with the manager????
Last year Malky paid near £2 million for Vellikonja - same thing, looked good in a pub league. I saw him play a lot in the development side (he did NOT stand out). His 45 minutes in the end of season game at Hull must be the worst performance by a City 'striker' since Derek Showers. When he went off at half time it changed the game - in our favour.

Talking about players scoring goals in lower leagues anyone seen alfred finbogasson (spelling?) looks good or ross mccormack
