    I want a trophy too

But given the choice between winning the League cup or qualifying for the champions league - I'd choose the CL every time.

It might have been a bitter pill to swallow for some, but Wenger is right, top players want to come to Premier league to play for teams who play in the CL not those who challenge for the League cup or FA cup.

Yes, I do. They are all apart from Clichy and Toure, excellent/world class players, and I believe that they would have still left to go and win the bigger trophies. CL has been massively important to our club since moving to the Emirates and without thay money, god knows where we would have been. So Wenger deserves huge credit for keeping us in it while we moved stadiums. Maybe our need to get top four is decreasing but it's still vital. In 2014, our current shirt sponsorship deals run out and we get the chance to renew it. As a CL club we stand to earn more money from that. So if we lose CL football, then that already have a knock on effect. So yep as it stands, top four is clearly more important to Arsenal than the League or FA cup.

Need to get in the top 4 cos of the money it raises...and the FA cup and League cup are not important...

no wonder Arsenal haven't won a trophy in 7 years despite having the 3 or 4th highest wage bill in the prem ... I guess we ain't ever likely to agree... given the choice of top 4 for the next 7 years and no trophy or a couple of FA cups and a league cup and 3 or 4 top 4 finishes I'd take the latter.

Not sure how you coped under Arry's reign at Tottenham, then. Despite somehow reaching two semi-finals in the FA Cup, he treated the cup competitions as nothing more than a nuisance.

And therein lies the difference between our clubs. We are used to playing in the elite competition in Europe and we expect to be there, Spurs are not and rely on hoping to pick up the odd minor trophy if they can.

they should make it top2 in the league ,fa cup winners and league cup winners qualify,it would give the two cup's a shot in the arm as well

Was gutted that we were soooooooo bad in both those semi finals. Took my eldest to the one v pompey and it was a terrible performance.

As for last year...I have no idea how we ever got to the semi finals...

I hate that he treated the cups (including the Europa League) like it was a waste of time...football should be about excitement (which he delivered) and glory ... we don't win titles but we could and maybe should have won a trophy or two.

I have some sympathy with that idea. But overall, it would water down the quality of the champions league.

And therein lies the difference between you and me...you think winning nothing but watching your club make hundreds of millions of pounds by appearing in a competition is better than watching your captain lifting a trophy.

Minor trophy...is that what you thought when George graham won his first trophy for you? Or when he won both in 93?

Your comment comes across as a bit snobby to be honest...

The CL is already watered down by the fact that non Champions are in it .... approx 75% of those in it ain't champions!

You're making an incorrect assumption. I want Arsenal to win the Champions League, but for that to happen, they first have to qualify to be in it <ok>

The league cup and FA cups are no longer regarded as big competitions, even teams at the bottom of the league put out reserve sides at times as 3 points in the league and staying in the prem is more important. It's not just the champions league that has ruined the cups, it's also the premier league, it would be interesting to get some Birmingham fans views on whether they would rather of won the CC or stayed in the EPL in 2011. Most people I know who support any EPL team who are under the age of 35 don't take the cups that seriously, up until the mid 90s teams and fans would have given their back teeth to win a cup but not anymore.

    Seems like a reasonable compromise.

Forget the CC - If you asked Birmingham fans if they'd rather be in the Champions League, they'd give you their left bollock instead <laugh>

I've actually got to agree with Wiltshere.

Harry WAS NOT interested in Cup competitions....and it showed. Why?I haven't a clue!Perhaps his old lady didn't want him going to far away from her.Bad girl!!!!!

No, it's just your manager is a muppet who is on a one man mission to destroy football.

I don't think anyone can really believe that.

Ok maybe the muppet part. I thought the same before he became our manager but he impresses me the more I read about him and hear from him and I can't argue with his performance so far.

But "on a mission to destroy football"!?!?!

How very silly. We've been playing some good stuff this season and I think you are using the Allardyce stereotype a bit too much there rather than actually having a look at us and forming your own opinion.

Do you think we were "destroying football" in our match against you recently? I thought it was a good game that could have gone either way and in the end, your extra bit of class told. But we applied ourselves well and played decent football.

I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Hammers, but I can't stand fat sam. I thought West Ham played some good football against us at Upton Park recently, it was a really good game.

If anything, West Ham hate Spurs nearly as much as we do, so for that they deserve some credit at least <laugh>

Actually,I believe Spurs fans have a soft spot for West Ham.
Hammers and Spurs have always tried to play good football. Can't say that for Arsenal.Notorious defensive team throughout football history, having to rely on one forward to scrape a goal or two!
I guess this is why Spurs fans have always perceived Arsenal fans as being on the thick side.
