Yes looking forwsrd to this. I'd love to be strolling down to tye ground, but I'll be able to follow the match on the stream. I think the new guy will not be up to fitness, but i hope we can try and keep the ball on the deck and make them think. Here's hoping anyway!
Professional are Barcelona (boooo) Espanyol snd Girona, but my local football fix is FC Calella who I watched most home games until covid shut the football down.
Mac is keeping us in this, 2 good saves Kirk looks bright Inniss enjoying his wrestling Albie does get into good positions, but it doesn’t come off. Our midfield still gelling. We are still very easy to get at.
Another defeat. Can't really say it's disappointing as I'm afraid it's just what's expected. This squad has very little quality and so we can't expect it to do well. It's time to re-evaluate our expectations after all the promises of last season. You cannot build a successful squad on the cheap and if our budget is such that that is what NA is having to try to do, then he cannot succeed. We have a club, we have use of a ground that someone else owns and we have a team that hopefully can avoid relegation to L2. It could be a lot worse ?
I’m not quite there yet, although I think naivety has got the better of me. We are too easy to get at and we are too predictable in attack. We went to two in the middle to bring on Washington, playing almost a 424 to try and win the game. It didn’t work, we lost.
I'm not going to run into slamming us. However, on today's 'performance' we're not going to score many goals. Perhaps @Not silvertown can give his more experienced view.
MacG kept us in the game for a while, Amos didn't have a save to make. Been outplayed three times in a row now. I agreed with bringing Washington on but Watson looked knackered and should have come off not Dobson, who had been more effective at that point.
Adkins: "We need to control the ball better and work the keeper more. We've got to turn things around. The transfer window is still open and everyone knows we need to bring more players in." Over to you then Thomas. Invest or we will just stagnate.
Well, that went well. Positives: Kirk sounded decent, the new guy got a start and for twenty minutes in the second hslf we sounded as if we might nick it. Plus the new keeper suddenly looks like the player the Portsmouth fans said he was. The Rest: Dobson sounded better but also still the player the Sunderland fans were happy to lose. Gunter out of position, Albie losing confidence, and the result was a fair one. Wstson got booked - Quelle surprise! I didn't see it as despite twenty years of marriage my missus still saw fit to invite people when Charlton are playing. No worries today though. Sandgaard needs to sort this though. This swuad is unfit for purpose.
My heart was broken today at the Valley. Charlie Kirk and Corey Blackett-Taylor, as a Charlton fan I feel I have to say I am very sorry. I cannot believe the reaction from the covered end in the last few minutes of that match, and after full time. What kind of fans turn on their own team before the end of the second home game of the season? Shame on us. What we have become. I am sickened.
I left once Wigan scored, rightly or wrongly. 30 seconds later the Covered End sounded out "you're not fit to wear the shirt". That is poor.
As soon as the first Wigan goal went in the covered end began singing "We're f**king sh*t..." And "you're not fit to wear the shirt" when the second goal went in, and at full time. They booed the players even as they tried to applaud the fans before going down the tunnel. And not just a few fans either. Thousands of them - or at least many of those who were left, in the case of the booing. That kind of response might be justified after a team has been thumped dozens of times and just been relegated. But at the end of the second home game of the season? Out of order. A disgrace.
Regarding the booing, I believe this has happened at quite a few grounds since the return of fans to stadiums. I haven't seen Charlton play in some time and wasn't at the game today but I've read the teams have been booed this early on at other stadiums. Maybe the fans being away for so long has affected how we respond during a live match. I was at the Euro final and there was nothing like that, but obviously England performed very well during the tournament.
Very sad times I'm afraid. It seems at the moment that we have been misled by yet another owner. We still have a few weeks to put that right, but personally I can't see it happening. It's not as though we are waiting for the top quality players to sign for us and not signing weaker players in the meantime. We do not appear to be targeting the quality players and are actually happy to sign the weaker ones. That is just down to the budget which has been set by TS. If we had a proper big budget (which we need to succeed) we would not be signing the likes of Dobson, Clare and Blackett-Taylor and we would not be fielding Watson and Gunter. Nor would we have a bench of kids who are not good enough for L1 football at this stage, nor would we be relying on someone like Morgan to drive our midfield. He is not good enough for that. We fans are frustrated as the penny has clearly dropped. TS needs to stop with the gimmicks and inspirational Tweets and buy or get us loans of 5 or 6 top quality players. If he doesn't, then we are entitled to feel that we have been lied to I'm afraid. As for booing the players....as I've said already, there's no point booing someone who isn't very good, just because he isn't very good. Players cannot exceed their personal abilities. The problem at the moment is TS and the recruitment plan. I can only presume that TS is getting pelters on Twitter and tbh he deserves it after all the claims he made. At the moment he has given us a worse team than any we had under Roland.
My Sunderland mate told me they have just signed two left backs, they are out there, this IMO is our most urgent priority. Previously Bowyer would tell Gallen what sort of players he needed and Gallen would go out and get them, even if under Esi's embargo they weren't that good. Four games without a LB, that's poor.
