40 grand a week for a total flop? You have to be friggin joking.

We should walk away now surely. There are far, far better options than that out there and I'd sooner pay Sturridge or Welbeck that to come here than a complete and utter plank.

David Ngog's move to Sunderland has been thrown into doubt by the Liverpool striker's wage demands.

The 22-year-old was widely expected to act as a makeweight in the deal which saw Jordan Henderson arrive on Merseyside earlier this month but the Black Cats are understood to have agreed a fee in the region of £4million for the former France under-21 international.

Sunderland, however, have been unable to match Ngog's current salary at Anfield.

The prospect of Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham joining his boyhood club has seen Ngog deemed surplus to requirements by Kenny Dalglish as he prepares to stamp his authority on Liverpool's side ahead of the new season.

A deal for Stewart Downing is expected to be finalised within the next fortnight but new Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish remains hopeful of retaining the winger's services after agreeing to sell Ashley Young to Manchester United yesterday for a fee of £15million.

Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam remains determined to join Liverpool, despite interest from both Villa and Tottenham, after being denied his dream move in the January transfer window.

If he doesnt like the contract offer from us then so be it, leave him to rot in Liverpool or he can come an play regular football for us. I hope we walk away from this deal.

Agreed, if a player would rather sit on a bench on more money then it shows where his priorities lie - let's leave him to rot!

Is this not the same as when we sold KJ to Stoke last year and some those we off loaded to RK at Ipswich when we paid part of their wages. If Liverpool were daft enough to offer silly money you cannot blame the lad for asking them to honour the contract. This story says to me that we are not willing to pay over the odds salary to an average player, but if Liverpool are will ing to sort out their end of the contract we will take a player who will be back up for the signings jet to be made.

I think both Sunderland and NGog are right in this case and Liverpool are caught out by their previous decisions

Agree with everyone really. If I was Ngog and Liverpool had been silly enough to offer those wages I would stay there. He is only young and could train and play reserves for 2 years. Makes enough money to be financially secure for the rest of his life then move on for free and be able to negotiate a fair wage. He would still be young enough to have a very successful career.

Liverpool were stupid giving him such a highly paid contract. A bit like we were stupid giving McCartney one.

Its not Ngog's fault. I am sure if Liverpool pay him off he will come to us and he will give it his all. Still we would be much better off offering Welbeck or Sturiddge big money. Welbeck particularly has proved he can play at the highest level.

Yeh I agree really it's not N'gog's fault, but hopefully Liverpool's loss is our gain. I think he's got the potential to be good just needs some confidence and some gametime.
