Debuchy sounds pretty pissed off in quotes this morning saying Lille are just looking for excuses to hold onto him. Wouldn't be surprised to see a transfer request from him soon

Its the market that's insulting to be honest. We won't be changing, we buy low and sell high. If that ruffles a few feathers then boo hoo

Their president won't have been Mike and Dekka's number one fan after Cabaye last year either, although it was hardly our fault that they had the clause in his contract.

Around £6million is a reasonable price for someone of his quality but I think it's part of our strategy to show that we won't be ****ed with in terms of money on transfers and we will only pay what the hierarchy (rightly or wrongly) assess his value as. What we are really relying on now is for the player to kick up so much of a stink that it'll be less bother for them just to let him leave, but ultimately he's under contract with Lille and they are under no obligation whatsoever to sell.

What we're doing now is a hell of a lot better than what supposedly happened when we sat down with Albert Luque and his agent.

This definitely isn't over yet, and I still think we'll get him in the end.

Think Lille are looking after their fans, they've seen Cabaye leave for nothing and Hazard has left too. Moussa Sow went to Turkey a season or so ago as well.

It's admirable how you look for bargains but you can't complain - Debuchy is worth at least £12M and Lille have every right to look for £15M or so. A team like Inter would pay that.

It's that old saying - once bitten, twice as shy.

No one will be paying 12m to be fair. That's scandalous for a right back. If Inter were happy with those kind of figures they'd have already lodged a bid. I agree Lille are probably trying to do a bit of damage limitation though in terms of selling off the jewels. However the reality is the lad will move probably for around the 8m mark, they just want to squeeze what they can and given they already have his replacement in place, they can afford to be awkward about it.

The way the market is though, £12M isn't bad value for a young, talented, French international starting right back.

If he was a midfielder or a striker no-one would mind, but a right back will win or lose you games as quickly as any other position.

Sorry but 12m for Debuchy would represent terrible value to me. Don't get me wrong I'm not bothered if we go and pay it because its not my money, and my job is just to support the 11 on the pitch. The finance etc is down to Ashley etc. He's a good full back, but 12m is a lot of money. To put it in perspective Cisse cost 9m (some 7.5m) and Cabaye cost 4.5m.

In those terms, £12m does look a lot.

Trust a Liverpool fan to be wanting to pay £12m for a right back! This is why you are currently the laughing stock of the transfer market. He isn't worth £12m he isn't that young at 27, he was 21 and at the level he is now i'd be ok with it. Ashley is playing the waiting game, Lille will buckle and a fee someone in bwtween what is currently being bid and what Lille want will be agreed. It's how you do decent business.

They'll cave in eventually and something will be worked out. Ideally he'd be in now but patience is key.

It's not really about a straight value.

Depending on what club is offering, the value changes. If it was Madrid buying, they'd want £15M +. And for Madrid, that would be decent value, because for them that's a reasonably cheap deal. The money might be a lot for Lille, but not for Madrid.

When you want to shop from the top shelves, you might want to keep paying the prices you paid before, say £8M - but when you reach a certain level, that £8M won't get you the player, even if that's what they're worth. The market is so distorted now (party by teams like Liverpool, don't remind me!).

Didn't realise he was as old as 27 though, that's a fair reason for it to be under £10M <ok>

Lille's €8m valuation of Debuchy is totally fair and I think the board know his SURELY. They know he's desperate to come here and are being very smart, as they always are, in ensuring we get the best deal we possibly can.

If we stop operating like this it will **** everything up. We can't have clubs taking the piss with us in regards to transfer fees any more (see: Liverpool) and if we miss out on one or two targets then so be it.

Got to say, this could be a ploy by Lille to try and get more money out of us, seem to remember players in the past being told or saying they didn't want to come and then these players end up in Black and White.
