    Same here i'm a history buff too. Always got a novel and a history book on the go. I'll get myself a copy of Jerusalem it sounds like my sort of thing. I've recently finished A History of the Arab Peoples by Albert Hourani (excellent introduction to a much misunderstood people) and am going to start Geoffrey Hoskings' Russia and the Russians as soon as i've finished The End of Food. Wish there were more hours in the day!

    I read The Crusades Through Arab Eyes earlier this year and it was quite insightful as the Arab perspective of that time is usually overlooked.

    Turns out that both sides were utter bastards ;)

    Absolutely! There are alot of historical myths still alive and that is one of them. Along with the goodness of Richard I. The fact that he instigated a pogrom against the Jews of York so that he wouldn't have to pay back loans taken out to fund his crusades is conveniently forgotton when banging on about good King Richard's battles with the evil King John.

    That's the good thing about history though, to quote Peter Cook when he was talking about air "there's alot of it about" :)
