Callaways Ping, or Taylor Made (Adidas) are all good, got good cavity backs for ease of loft etc, I have Ping G15's irons with Cobra driver not played in 18 months my mate has them at the moment and loves them.
I went for custom fitting to find I'm normal size, but a good club fitter does it for nothing if you go onto Ping site put in your measurements they will tell you what ones you need. They are done by dot's I'm white dot.
Whatever you do stay away from are blades that pro's use and you need to be under a 10 handicap to be able to handle them <ok>
Go to a good golf club who will let you take the clubs out to try, they will put this special tape on the club which when it impacts the ball you get an impression on the tape to show where you are hitting it.

Most important thing before you get your clubs, I never done this and I'm **** is to have lessons. They will rip your swing to bits, it will feel awkward but **** me when it clicks you will see extra yards and straightness throughout the game. Don't take advise of anyone till you've been taught it's the only advise and one I wish I took.

Is it your height that they measure the fitting by? If so im 5,9/10 If you're the same then I would be a medium as well?

That's pretty good advice about the tape bit, Never thought of that before. Was thinking of having lessons but thought it would be a bit embarrassing as im already pretty good but obviously like you said they will slate whatever I do. My drives could do with some work though, Find they always sway to the right. Love getting a sweet hit though where they just go straight 150-250 yards but yeah I have the Stockwood golf course and Knowle golf course literally 5 minutes from my house so im sure one of them does some lessons.

It's easier for the pro's to teach before you get bad habits, but you're driving with you left hand to far over I think without hitting a ball it's difficult to say. I used to hit 200-250 ok till someone said do it like this and I thought the ball was going to curve right round and hit me <laugh> had to go to lessons just to correct that as I had so many bad habit's.
When I start if my back allows it I will be taking lessons again as I need loads of help.
But choosing a club is really down to the golf shops, they want you to be happy so very rarely will they give you bad advise on them<ok>

They never do, you always pay for the good sets as separates mate unless you get starter kits that are cheaper stuff but good just to see if you enjoy it. You might like one set of irons but a different make for your driver and putter.
Bags are something you need to think about a trolley bag or carry bag

That's what I was thinking of doing when I get a bit older is to build a good golf set, A bit like tools, You build them up as you go until you get your shed full. May sound sad but i'd love to whack out £1000 and get a set of tailored fitted Callaway's but for now I just want, Wilson/Dunlop full set. Good enough to get me going/Practise with. To be honest im just dying to have a play on the Knowle course, Have a look http://www.knowlegolfclub.co.uk/. This is literally a stone throw away from my back garden. I could hop over the fence (used to when I was little) and id be on the course.

Was thinking of these for now. http://store.dunlopsport.com/dunlop-tour-tp13-graphite-golf-set-876025

Always better to get a starter set, because at least you get the bag as they start at silly prices just to have Callaway or Ping on them, my bag is from my starter kit still.
It can be very expensive golf and is probably the most addictive sport going. I hated it with a passion till I first went out and realised you only play to beat yourself on your previous scores.

Double figure will be kind <laugh>

I can do the one up Ashton in 85 but this was with 3 clubs. A driver, a 3 and a putter <laugh> This is why I need a new set! Not fond on getting golf clothes though

You won't need them tailored with your height mate, but no when they tailor fit you they make them to order. They can cut them down if they are to long but you will be fine <ok>

When you start going for the name ones get a good putter first as that's the one you want to win on <ok>
