Sad news about Phil Hughes this morning. May he rest in peace with thoughts going to his friends and family. Must be heart-breaking for Sean Abbott too. Only 22 years old and has to live with that for the rest of his life, not his fault of course but I don't think he'll ever see it that way.
I wonder what cricket will do about his death? He wore a helmet ffs he couldn't of been protected any more
I've been hit by a cricket ball when I was 14 smack in the mouth. People gathered around me thinking it's nothing then my top lip exploded covering me in blood, my teeth were all loose. Resulting in eating through a straw for weeks and off school for two months. I've always stayed well clear of cricket since. So I can honestly say they ****ing hurt when it's whacked at you, but like Lanny says they wear hats now so can't see what else it can do to protect them. Feel really sorry for the other one like Shiny says, he's got to live with that for the rest of his life. But big RIP for Phil Hughes died playing the game he loved.
The only thing I can think of is a motorbike/formula 1 helmet but obviously designed a little lighter, bit more sporty and not as bulky. You see it to often where the ball just goes through the helmet and they get a smack in the face. I've been hit in the arm by a cricket ball and that ****ing hurt so can understand why it put ol ROD off of school for 2 months! but like the doctor said what happened to him was so rare there had only ever been 1 of those cases before involving a cricket ball... Nobody should die playing the game they love...
