Their offence we know is good- seems like every time they reach the red zone they score. They make yards very easily at the moment too. However what is making the difference is their defence- San Diego barely went a yard last night. The one thing for me though is that it is still a long, long way to go until the Superbowl, and they may peak too early.
The NFL has an unwritten rule that best defensive teams are most likely to win in the post season if they're up against the best offensive teams, hence the blowout last year with the Broncos - Seahawks. But there is another factor that comes into play: injuries. Peaking too early isn't that much of a big deal in the NFL, having a healthy roster throughout the season and especially the post season is. Manning was beaten up by the time the Post season started, his weak spots are his ankles, which why he never ever runs out of the pocket, he never carries the ball or even makes a run for it. SD had a very good defense but in the past 4 weeks almost all of their good players got injured. And what that means for a team to have their defense ripped apart, you saw a good case of that last night. Hope this gives some context.
Thanks Cove. From the reading I've done over the past week or so am I right in saying the 49ers are in a similar scenario to the Chargers? (i.e they are missing a number of their 'best' defensive players?). With that in mind, as a secondary question, could we perhaps argue a case to suggest that Denvers demolition job on those two teams over the past week could end up being a little overrated?
Well looks like it is Little Mix on Sunday: http://www.wembleystadium.com/Press/Press-Releases/2014/10/Little-Mix-to-return-to-Wembley Can honestly say they were not top of my to see list. I guess Wings has a up-tempo beat which may lend itself fairly well to the show.
Can't bring you good news I'm afraid: http://www.wembleystadium.com/Press/Press-Releases/2014/10/Little-Mix-to-return-to-Wembley
Well, the 49'ers... to be honest, I can't point it out. Crabtree was injured but that's not it, Kaepernick gets flushed out of the pocket waaaaay too many times and then starts flapping about. Sometimes it works, most of the time, he just throws it to the sideline. But the main thing with the 49'ers is, if Gore isn't having his night, well then just start packing and go home. The defense is good but falters under pressure, the offense is decent but it the whole thing goes down if Gore is having an off day.
Found a decent article on what happened last week: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2239823-how-demaryius-thomas-exposed-the-49ers-defensive-weakness
What I'd love to see at a pre game show would be the LSO or similar belting out some real heavy classics, O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, the god scene from Verdi's requiem or anything loud by Wagner. I think it would really get the crowd up for it and make a nice change from the usual pap.
Little Dutch band that might make it some day in the UK, this record's been playing on repeat on our radio station. Think this would fire up the stadium pretty much:
Who's going Sunday? I will be there again I'll try and persuade that moaner bastard Dan to come back on here!
Loved that article. Some really great detail. When was the last time you saw that sort of objective analysis in the UK Premier League?! A breath of fresh air!
Yea I was thinking about picking the Falcons as Stafford was absolutely crap last week and was basically saved by his defense. Even though Reggie Bush and Pettigrew are injured, I thought, well, these are the Lions, and the Falcons have mixed it up. Better go with the Lions.
Flipping hell Stafford, 5/11 only 40 yards so far in almost one and a half quarter... Fairley carted off, Lions will lose this.
Jones was lucky there that was flagged. He made no attempt to tackle Mathis and was just strolling back almost twirling a cane.
Think the Falcons already knew it would come back, have you ever seen an interception from the redzone returned for a TD in such a slow manner? I haven't.
