sorry guys im goind to disagree. Yes his finishing is good and his heading, set pieces are good however, this season he has looked very slow and after each game id come away thinking who didn't play aswell as the others and lambert would feature for much of the season i really didn't rate him as highly this season.
This makes me think you went to 6 game at the start of the season, or you simply don't understand the finer mechanics of football.
Lambert was awesome for us last year yet again. OK he was poor for the first couple of months and seemed to be carrying an injury but since then he has been a powerhouse. Top top player. We just need someone as good alongside him.
Even in his so-called poor phase at beginning of season, he was in the right spot but couldn't seem to buy a goal. He wasn't sharp at the beginning of the season, but no one could criticise him for lack of effort.
He does now chase everything - remember last year our first goal at dean court he chased a lost cause, won the ball and barney got the goal. Lambo will be great in the championship
Championship defences will struggle against him, same as league one. He doesn't need pace because he puts himself in the right place. He creates as many chances for others as he takes himself, and is totally unselfish. If he starts off fit and raring to go, I think Saints will get off to a good start this season - Connolly will show his class along side him too, as he needs someone like Lambert to play off.
i went to every home game and bristol rovers away leyton orient away too, yes he is decent but I didn't think he was one of our best players lallana guly oxo fonte and a couple of others were better his goal ratio is soo good becase he rarely misses penalty's something that no one can take away from him he is sublime. fatletiss don't try to make me or my opinion negligible. i rate him just think he looks and is far to slow
Your original post had a distinct negative edge towards Lambert last season and you did use the phrase "didn't really rate him as highly this year". I disagreed. Dont be too sensitive.
There is no doubt for what ever reason Lambert struggled at the beginning of the last season. As did a few of the players including Lallana. Something just wasn't right with most Saints players at the start of last season. It seemed to change almost immediately NA took over. Although it still took a little while but they kept improving. I am not expecting the same kind of problems this, other than perhaps a few may find the pace to much for them. The opening few games will be interesting we will soon know what we are about.
It will be a learning curve for players and fans alike. Last season we were top dogs (especially towards the end) and that engenders confidence, but this season, as we all know, will be more difficult. A strong start (rare for Saints) will carry over the confidence from last season, but fans must not get on the teams back if we lose points early on. NA is an experienced manager who can help the team adapt to the notion of losing and how to turn it round. Lose the game not the lesson...how we've all missed the Adkins-isms!
