liverpool would be a very attractive proposition. whether they'd want him i don't know but this is the one club that would worry me this summer.
Thats open to debate! You may be bigger in terms of fanbase but Wigan are a long established Premier League club with all the revenue that entails.
i thought this was about who the bigger club is based on fan base and history... they seem to be about the only thing villa have over us.
But surely, Superman, if we had been relegated he would not have been a candidate for the job. A manager is only as good as his last 6 months and PL knows that. If he thinks that 12th is the best he is going to achieve then he, and any ambitious Manager for that matter, will look to get away. Hang around too long until things start going badly and you can say goodbye to a better job. I seriously believe that PL thinks that 12th is better than he thought he could achieve here and will go to Villa if he gets the offer. They are a much bigger club, the owner will give him some money to spend, Villa have some decent players there and also some useful youngsters coming through from a prolific academy. PL is more than capable of taking Villa back into the top half of the table in a couple of years and then who knows who would come knocking on his door. Unfortunately he will take Culverhouse & Co with him. I really do hope I am wrong but to me it would be more logical to go than to stay.
They have enormous potential being situated in the second city and if they ever did get their act together they would seriously challenge the top 6! A few seasons of poor management since O'Neil left has seen them flounder but you have to admit they are an exciting prospect especially for someone as ambitious as Lambert. I'm not saying he will go there now but if Villa did come calling I bet he would be extremely tempted.
you can't get a bigger IF than that sentence! villa are literally a million miles away from being a top 6 team and would require enormous cash input to take them anywhere near the top of the table. even martin o'neill, who did get them to 6th, was deemed not good enough effectively - and his bad time at villa will not go down too well with mr lambert. managing villa is like being on a hiding to nothing. their expectation levels are totally unrealistic. i can think of no club less exciting than aston villa right now. they have a weak team too - this nonsense about them having a good side is rubbish. they will have to sell before they can buy. he hasn't got that problem at norwich - he'll have £15-20m to do as he pleases and to actually build on an already decent base. villa's is flimsy at best and just cos they have an extra 6k on their gates won't send a shiver down the spine. i do think villa will come in for him so we'll see who is proved right won't we.
Supers my friend you are in denial and if you want to bury your head in the sand and hope that all this stuff goes away than thats fair enough! Aston Villa tempted Martin O'Niel who was the golden boy a few years ago so don't think that it would be impossible for Villa to lure Lambert away!
and here's a thought, seeing as everyone seems so keen on conspiracy theories and what-not... anyone remember the atmosphere inside carrow road in the aftermath of the burnley farce? people were so overjoyed that lambert was staying that the place was electric, the players motivated like crazy to impress and there was such a feel good factor for the rest of the season. didn't do the club too much harm did it seeing as we were promoted. is this a cunning ploy to turn villa down and give a similar boost pre-season...
if PL were to be approached for the villa job, i'm sure he would immediately contact MON for his views, and i doubt he would be very complimentary about the villians, a fact that would have great bearing on PL's decision as to him MON is almost like a father who he thinks very highly of.
but villa were having money pumped into them then - the same money they are now trying to recover of course. its a completely different kettle of fish. not to mention that o'neill is widely reported to have hated his time at villa. do you really believe lambert won't consult his 'gaffer'?
Supers I think that the scousers will more than likely make a move for Lambert so I agree that he wont go to Villa I just think that you are under estimate how big Villa are and for a young ambitious manager like Lambert it would be a great opportunity. You can't possibly compare the Burnley approach with a potential approach from Villa!
