having read a few things today, i think norwich have cocked this up big time, though they were merely trying to keep lambert. i think he's done us up like a kipper over this - planned to perfection
I have to say I agree with you atm. The English leagues at the moment have lost it's soul, it lost it a while ago but it's still stubbling along!!! It's a bit like the economy everyone was after the quick buck or instant success and whilst it improved things for a while it had to crash eventually!!! After watching many heroic sporting events this summer from the tour de france, the olympics, the paralympics, the tennis, the golf the football was just depressing. There aren't many football clubs atm where everything looks rosy or i respect!!
I don't think you'd be feeling that way if Norwich were in better shape, but this has been coming ever since last season when the board chose not to risk investment in the squad (otherwise Lambert would still be there). I'm pleased Ashley Cole has tweeted that because now he can pick up a lengthy ban too!
yorkie, in all honesty, what the hell are you talking about? you're massively, massively wrong. lambert wanted out - perhaps we can see why seeing as things are much tougher this season for us. we invested every single penny the club had into the team! not a single penny is unaccounted for. we had to pay the remainder of our debts off by the end of this season too so we were always going to be hamstrung financially anyway, but this was something lambert knew about. the club were not in a position to just throw money at lambert. in your case we either lost our manager but kept our club running within its means or we kept our manager and risked the entire clubs future? sounds like we got the better deal to me, not that the option was ever there. just cos we haven't made the best of starts doesn't mean the club isn't in good shape. if (and its only an if) we go down we are debt free with four years parachute payments. hardly in bad shape are we...
Not really show how I feel about this. I can't imagine Lambert would do this for the money, or for the sake of being a ****, instead it is probably a counter-claim against our claim for compensation in which case it is fair enough. I am still grateful for the job Lambert did for us, but he has gone down a bit in my estimation.
"Gone down a bit" in your estimation DM? It was Lambert who forced the issue all the way as far as I can tell, City didnt want to part with him but the deal was forced on them by Lambert resigning. So now he is sueing the club for lost earnings, its difficult to see how he could have earned anything after he resigned from the club especially if he couldnt even wait for the chairman to return from holiday to discuss the situation with him. I dont take a lot of interest in any other club but ITFC but this man is surely taking the pi55 out of the club, the supporters, and the game of football as a whole.
From the Midlands Express & Star, 2nd of June: “The claret and blues had been set to name Lambert as Alex McLeish’s replacement yesterday but a few issues had to be ironed out following Norwich’s demands for compensation Villa chiefs believe the £1m demanded by Norwich for Lambert is void because he had a clause in his contract which enables him to speak to another Premier League club. Norwich denied Lambert permission to talk to Villa earlier this week, prompting the Scot’s resignation which was refused because it could scupper the Canaries claim for compensation. But Villa claim that because Norwich were the first to breach the terms of Lambert’s deal – by refusing him the chance to talk to the claret and blues – they are able to land the former Celtic and Borussia Dortmund midfielder without a fee. Owner Randy Lerner was keen to avoid further expenditure on managers having already spent around £12m on payments to former bosses Martin O'Neill and Gerard Houllier, and to Birmingham to sign McLeish. Lambert will also bring in Ian Culverhouse, who has been his assistant at both Carrow Road and Colchester United, but has yet to make a decision on other staff. A move for Norwich striker Grant Holt could also be on the cards after the striker indicated that he is keen to leave Carrow Road.” I don’t know why Lambert is claiming 2M on this – after all, the Norwich “fans” all denied he was cynical enough to preside over a team that cheats (to two promotions, no less), so perhaps he has a case if he’s as squeaky clean as they claimed. Anyway, the Norwich board, in their petulant and childish refusal to allow Lambert to talk to someone else (are we REALLY to believe their poor ickle chairman had to spend days climbing on a plane to come all the way back here to talk things over – Norwich might be in the dark ages but I doubt wherever he was on holiday was…internet, telephones, conferencing etc??) and then refuse poor Holty his request for a transfer merely reflect the fans outlook on this: creaming their shorts over a bit of success and then behaving like jilted, jealous teenagers when their “heroes” want to bog off to better places. A bit like why they camp out on our board – terrified we won’t give them a second thought if they don’t. Feeble.
Haha, excellent, that made me laugh. This guys a gem. Has no idea what really went on (nor do the rest of us) but invents a story to suit his agenda anyway. Should work for the Daily Mail, if he doesn't already. I really enjoy posts from most of you, including. nay, especially, the ones who venture to the 'Dark Side' but I don't get the vitriol of people like this, really I don't.
Cheats? Let's see what you think after playing Villa. Lambert will have his players Tom Daleying all over the place. You may think differently being on the receiving end of a Paul Lambert masterclass. Didier Drogba would be embarrassed by the amount of time you boys spent on the floor. Two promotions and you did it lying down. The only injury Grunt Hog ever got was a bruised coccyx from falling on his porky arse. Crumpled in a heap with no-one anywhere near him? At one point, I thought there was a sniper at Carrot Road!
