if lambert/lallana were good enough then they would of played tonight, its only southampton fans who think both of them can play for england, If we get to the premier league and they are still playing at the same level they are now then that will change completely, but its completely different being amazing in the championship and being amazing in the premier league, and England need players who are amazing in the premier league.
It's only Southampton fans who think both Lambert and Lallana could play for England because we're the only ones who regularly watch them. True, we are the only ones who are biased in favour of them, but then again, we have the whole of the rest of the football watching public who, whilst hardly having a clue of knowing how good they are, are also generally opposed to their inclusion because, as we all know, England are far too good to have Championship players included in the side. And that includes two Championship players who are actually better, in some respects, than some of the Premier League players in the current squad.
im sorry, but i couldnt name a player in the squad that played tonight that is currently worse than lallana.
It appears then that your opinion of Adam Lallana might be lower than several of the EPL clubs and managers that keep making noises about trying to sign him. You didn't say the same about Lambert.
i personally think lambert has more of a chance than lallana, even though lallana is a better player. Goals speak louder than perfomances, they always have and always will. If lambert was 10 years younger then i reckon he would of played tonight. But age is a big factor these days when selecting players from lower leagues. And btw Grant holt would get a call up before lambert anyway
Theo would be amazing in the championship. just how lallana is. But theo is ****e in the premier league. just how lallana could be.
I have to disagree - Theo's game, whatever division he is in, relies on pace. All well and good against worse defenders in the Championship but against PL level defenders you need more. Lallana relies on skill and flair and making his own space which will do well for him in any division.
well they only way to prove that is for him to play in the prem, hopefully next season. if he proves me wrong then i will be over the moon. i just think alot of our fans exaggerate lamberts and lallana's abilty.
I would have liked to see Theo get some game time today. He did have one of his best games last Sunday, I think he will be on the plane. As for Alex...it's just a bit too early. But after the Euro's he is in.
Well.. he had two good finishes and got into a couple of dangerous positions. His first 45 was awful - constantly out of position and giving the ball away. I'd have rather had Forte, and a few fans around me were lambasting him saying Chamberlain should have been in his place.
I'm taking a middle ground on this debate, which is rare for me. I wouldn't pick Lallana for England right now, but if he does well in the Premier League then he deserves to be called up, at least for a friendly. Same with Lambert. I believe they're both good enough, but they should prove it at club level first.
For the record I don't think either should start - I simply think, looking at the current squad, both deserve a place just as much and even a bit more than some of the people currently in.
I suspect that assuming we go up and that he is able to continue knocking them in, it might be a bit late for Lambert anyway, unless there was a major injury problem. Lallana has plent of time though, and if he is lucky with injuries I agree with Dan that his ability to get the cross in by wrong footing the defender with his sheer skill would make his playing for England a distinct possibility.
Holt and Graham both have 12 goals this season. That's more than Sturridge, more than Wellbeck, more than Walcott, more than Bent, more than Crouch and more than Carroll. Lampard also has 12, although quite a few of those were penalties. In fact the only top flight, English player to have scored more is Rooney. Lambert's background isn't too far removed from that of Holt or Graham and I don't think he'd struggle should we go up.
If Nugent can get a cap - and poach a shameful goal that was already going over the line, and claim all the glory too (though can't really blame him for that), though it does sum him up nicely - anyone can.
I reckon he should be in - Owen, Walcott, all those guys made their impact when they were complete unknowns. All that mattered was they had the confidence and weren't phased by the occasion. O-A fits that characteristic to a tee, and I would say needs to be on the plane. Time to see at least some bloody risks from England. What on earth can go wrong - it's not like we're mailed on for the final or anything? It's not like he's a goalkeeper or defender who might mess something up in his own half anyway.
