i would rather have welbeck or sturridge than lambert anyday, both strikers would tear apart the champ, anyone who thinks lambert should play for england is a fool.
Me too, bit of a breath of fresh air going on, especially since Gerrard went off. Lots of good linking up.
And Huntelaar. Spectacular goal, shame him and Smalling are off now, would like to have seen more of him, he looks good.
Pretty encouraging performance, regardless of the scoreline. Add Rooney and Chamberlain to this team (and perhaps Lambert and Lallana ) and we've got a pretty good chance. I'd like to see much less of Gerrard, Milner and Barry though.
Barry is a overrated player, shocking at times. Lallana should be given a go,we need his flair. We should play a very defensive game like Greece did in 2004 and score goals from set pieces and counter attacks.
Are you an idiot? Lallana is not good enough to play for england, neither is lambert, how have you gotten this deluded???????
Because Emile Heskey and Darius Vassell have a combined total of over 80 caps? Nobody is saying Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert are good enough to win the world cup. People are saying, as the England team currently stands, they should be let in. Using two of tonight's squad for a direct comparison, Lambert is certainly better than Fraizer "made of glass" Campbell and Lallana would be more use than Stewart "No goals, no assists, one arrest" Downing.
I thought we were very good tonight. Holland are just a better side, and Robben is one of the best players in the world, but we looked decent. Encouraging signs. Except Downing playing again. He is f***ing terrible
Haha! Great comment. What a shower of ****e England were. I don't think some people understand football. How anyone could say that was a positive game for England I will never know. We didn't create anything. We only scored because Holland dropped so deep it was almost like they felt sorry for us.... Then a centre half had to show the way! We have a whole team full of two types of player. Industrious but ****e and flair with no end product. I will say that Parker and Hart are exceptions. We go forward, look like we have them on the ropes then we pass back to our centre halves who pass it to each other for 5 mins, then it goes out to Baines - he tries to go down the wing, realises he has no options and we lose it again. We used to build our foundation from defence - we were crap but at least we would not concede many. We can't even really say that anymore. I'm still passionate about England because I'm English but the English players are sub-standard all over the park ! I will finish with this.....Thank God for Southampton Football Club!
Speak for yourself. Bear in mind that we had a lot of players that haven't played much together before, against the second best team in the world. They have some truly amazing players, most of whom were kept fairly quiet (or as quiet as can be expected/) At least we had passion and fight, were winning 50/50s and pressuring. We were much, much better than we have been (eg. at the world cup). I don't know what more you can ask? They are a better side than us. We played well considering. I don't think you can start slating other people's knowledge of football based on your opinion that we were "a sack of sh**e". Milner and downing were the only players who were sh**e tonight. But then milner came on just as Holland scored, so its excusable. We all know downing won't play much anyway as soon as Chamberlain isn't tied to the U21's (IE at the euros). The main problem was not showing Robben onto his weaker foot. It was Smalling's individual error for the first goal. I think Lescott will start in official matches anyway, he would never have let Robben score his second. There is literally no pleasing some fans. Compared to the shambles of the world cup, we were light years ahead tonight.
I apologise to you sir. If you can pick out the positives in that then you are a better man than I. I didn't really mean to say it in a way to single out anyone who was positive about the performance. It was just an off the cuff remark that I should have considered more thoughtfully. I don't think Holland are a better side though. Individually we have the players on paper to compete. My comment was probably a bit harsh on the players. Where England fail dismally is that we are tactically inept. No matter who has managed us over the past 10 years we see the same football, the same mistakes, same passing movements, same missed opportunities and the same defensive errors. I don't accept that we should just say 'oh well' Holland are better than us. If Greece can win the Euros and if Germany can stick out an any 11 players that can go out and win a tournament, then we can win a game of football with the right tactics against anyone.
Haha! Apology accepted. You are right about the industry/flair thing, but I think a lot of it had to do with Capello himself. Him and his strange defensive/passing/playing emile heskey tactics, and the fact that we never really gelled as a team or played with any cohesion. He made some terrible, terrible selections at the world cup (Rob green, heskey, not subbing rooney when needed etc.) Tonight was already better, there was more movement and understanding already from the likes of Welbeck/Sturridge/Johnson/Young. I think a lot of people's first reaction to watching England nowadays is to slag them off straight away. I understand the negative attitudes when we are actually terrible, but I wouldn't class today as terrible. England fans as a whole need to take a leaf out of Nigel Adkins book, and take the positives and highlight the negatives and that's the way I was looking at the performance. The amount of facebook statuses about how crap we are I saw tonight, I just don't think it was warranted. I completely agree with you about the managerial situation, and I still don't think that Stuart Pearce is the right man for the job. His team selection was better than Capello's (EMILE HESKEY WENT TO THE WORLD CUP. UNFORGIVABLE.) but he doesn't have enough experience to take the role permanently. The sooner twitchy comes in the better, as long as he sticks with the policy of playing the younger, hungrier players. Final point... Scott Parker. What a man.
