Great summary and well articulated thoughts on the current, dire situation - thanks Gaffer. Unfortunately as an Ipswich supporter born in 1991, I've not witnessed many glorious moments at Portman Road, especially nothing compared to the Ramsey and Robson years!
You’re absolutely right gaffer. Had Evans forked out a bit for the pitch we would still have the best groundsman in the country at Portman Road. It’s the pride in those little bits of attention to detail and the loyalty from club to staff and staff to club that marks out the old era and the new, the success and the failure. The irony is that it always enabled us to do so much more with so much less.
13 games in, not thrilled with Lambert. Lambert on the road - D L L L L L L How many goals in the 6 straight losses away ? 0 How many minutes ( excluding stoppage time ) till we last scored on the road, at READING? 617. Yes, he's a PR masterpiece - however the stick Milne got for NOT doing his job off people ( fair enough we all have our own view ) as MANAGER, Lambert first and foremost has been brought in to IMPROVE results. I love all the other stuff he's doing, terrific, but he's NOT PR manager HR manager he's the TEAM manager. Such a 45 minute man so far, lots of hope first half but we cannot do it over 90 under Lambert at all. Not saying Lambert out or anything like this, the squads a shower, however, he's starting to bring his own players in. Again, whether people LIKE this fact or not - I DON'T as I hate Hurst with passion, results have REGRESSED under Lambert. We were FOUR points off safety when Hurst was sacked, we are now 7. Heck, we WERE 10. Summary - MUST do better...............
Don't forget, for Hurst's last two matches everyone knew he was going. The decision was made after his first win and with Town second bottom and level on points with fourth bottom. This is what many were calling for from the first or second game of the season, this is what people have got. Bringing his own players in? Do me a favour. We have been given an incredible opportunity to survive against all the odds, and that's because there are three other awful teams that are also getting cast adrift from the rest of the league. If we fail to take it then Paul Lambert has to go down as an abject failure and the worst manager in the club's history. The fact he has already been given the green light to stay on next season just fills me with dread for how we are going to perform in League One. He is not a PR masterpiece, he is a confidence trickster.
Little wrong above, both Lambert and Hurst 9/36 in the league. Bloody awful! Both lost a cup tie too!!!!
You should hold on to Lambert at all costs. You will need him when you are in L1. And I'm not being sarcastic, he has been there and done it .....with us. He is your best bet to bounce straight back.
Not comparing like for like for me - we were much tighter, closer to the opposition and showing signs of progress in the earlier games. I'm not seeing anything that gives me confidence we can pick up enough points to overtake the three sides above us who are not going to pick up many more points themselves. I would dearly love it to happen, but I would be surprised if we can get much more than a tally of 30 points. Just looking at Feb, we are set up for defeat after defeat until Wigan and Reading back to back.
The guy is obviously trying to build bridges with the fans, just seen he is paying travel cost for a group who went to Blackburn, fair does to the guy he is making far more effort than “Mickey two fingers”. Just sort out the playing side and you’ll gain even more kudos.
It's all wearing a bit thin for me. I would rather he won fans over with hard work on the training ground and in the dugout than trying to compensate for it with bribes. Maybe harsh, but it's the owner who should be rewarding fans - particularly season ticket holders - with some kind of rebate or at least a big slice off next year's season tickets. A gesture worth a grand and a half for someone who is taking £100,000s if not millions out of the club just feels like yet another PR stunt - whitewashing - to me.
I am hoping all these fans' faith is justified, but he needs to start doing his talking on the pitch now.
I don’t disagree that it doesn’t cost him much, relatively speaking, but I’d far rather his attitude towards the fans than Dino’s!!Let’s see if it lasts though.
I think it's a little O T T all this stuff with everything shining out his ass to be honest. Yes he's making all the right noises etc..... various quality bits of work that we need..... However, I am as you all know through my support of Mick his entire tenure, it HAS to be results first for me. Without them, well, look at this season. Infact, post Mick we've won four sodding games of football - absolutely pathetic. 0.75 under Lambo, jesus man. I'm sooooo happy Hurst has gone but I'm not giving you a free ride.
I think you're forgetting our poor form at the end of Mick's tenure. This goes back such a long way now. Winning is a habit and so too is getting beaten. That said, what we would give now to have Mick in the dugout. Never thought I would say that I can tell you!
Seeing as I've judged Lambert and Hurst's 12 game cycle - 0.75 points - lets do the same with Mick's final 12. Bearing in mind the toxic atmosphere, and everyone being absolutely desperate for Mick to leave - his final 12 games in charge - 3 win 2 draw 5 losses = 11 points. 0.91 points per cycle, not much more. Infact, 3 wins in that final 12 game cycle - the same amount of games Lambert and Hurst have won all bloody season collectively................... Why do you think I was always behind his reign and quite upset when he left? To me he was the glue given the budget - yes he was arrogant as hell, rubbing people the wrong way. - yes, his football was crap But he had a lot of good points and to me.............. was a damn good manager here given the constraints. Really over to Lambert now to see what he can do this season, will Evans release some more £££, will we get another couple in? I don't see it....... we look done this season to me.
Hi Westy, it was 3 wins, 4 draws, 5 defeats, 13 points I believe. But only one win in final 7 matches. Compared to now we’d take that form, but it wasn’t exactly great.
You cannot compare as I'm sure both Hurst and Lambert would have had more points on the board with some of the players Mick had in his team and also an in form Bart (let's face it he kept our league position respectable for 2 seasons). It's difficult to know where the blame lies in losing those players and loss of Barts form, I would suggest a large part lies at Hursts door but Mick can't be removed from blame. I don't think it's a coincidence that alot of clubs decline after he leaves, now that might point to him being a manager that gets alot out of limited resources but I think it also points to his lack of long term planning and teams lack of identity. I for one despite the position we are in are glad we got rid of Mick, following town under him became a boring soulless affair without hope and feeling. Since Lambert has come in despite the results he has brought some of that back. Some will say it's all about results but for me it's more than that as if it wasn't I would have chosen to support someone else, it's about an identity and a feeling for the football club.
Hi PTC, you're right that it's easy to forget how tedious it was to support Town. But this an improvement? I don't think Lambert has really brought back the soul of the club - the good will SHOULD run out when we approach mathematical relegation. But perhaps it is going to be sustained until 10 games into the new season, mid table in League One.
